Your Clueless Valentine

Happy (early) Valentine’s Day! First word that pops into your head?

Love…chocolate…kiss…diamonds…red? With me the word is romance with a capital R. Romance drives me and I can’t get enough. I need help explaining the word to the male gender. I’m not saying all men fall short on the romance-understanding scale, but I’ve found most don’t get the difference between sex and romance.

A “clueless male” excerpt from Sleeping with the Lights On:

Wesley appeared behind me, arms encircling my waist while planting an open, mouth-sucking kiss on my neck. “Mmmm, you smell better than the food.”

Food? Really?

First, tell me the first word that popped into your head, and then give me your take on explaining my word – Romance – to a clueless male.

First word that popped into my head was pleasure. On Valentine's Day, it's about pleasuring the person you love. It's giving them something they wouldn't give themselves-- a pampering that they'd say is wasteful or that they don't have time for. It's something that for one day, you can give to them that they wouldn't do for themselves the other 364 days a year.

The word that popped into my head is constant. I think love should be celebrated every day, not just on February 14th.

Non romantic. This man sounds a lot like my husband, doen't have a romantic bone in his body. Needs training. Food just doesn't cut it.

My Valentine's word is "Cherished" - as in that's how I want to feel and that's how I want to make him feel. The way I explained it to my own clueless male was that every once in a while I need to feel like I'm just the most precious thing in his universe and he's just desperate to make sure I know it.

chocolate was the first word I thought about.. I know, food :P It is because I think our anniversary is more personal. Romance is... being happy just being together.

Hi - I'm back. Had to go to a meeting but wow have you come up with some good ones while I was gone.
Have to agree with Margaret - everyday should be Valentine's day.
Kasey - too funny!
Ah, Mrs. Soule - maybe bringing the universe into play will help.
Cindy has a nice kissing family!

the word is hug - there are many kinds depending on the person, the length, the firmness, with a sway - but it shows anything from affection to love.

The first word that popped into my head was hubby. My husband is obsessed with food. I don't really get it. It's not lasting. He's not in the least romantic and admits it. I've been trying to train him for fifteen years. He still doesn't get it. He thinks bringing me home my favorite foods from the store is romantic. More fat going to my thighs is what that is lol. However, he shows me he loves me in other ways, so I'm not giving up yet.
