I’d like to introduce you to Rafe
McCarthy from One Tear. Thanks, Rafe, for agreeing to answer my questions and
join the party today!
You’re
most welcome, Denisea. How could I turn down the request of a military wife? Do
your worst, woman. I’m ready!
Well, when you put it that way, let’s
get started, because our readers really want to know…
Everything about you! Tell us, where did
you grow up? Is that the only place you’ve ever lived or have you moved around?
I
grew up in Big Sandy, Montana, but have lived all over the place since
graduating high school and making my way into the world. I’ve lived in North
Carolina, California, Japan, and Missouri.
What’s your current occupation?
I’m
a United States Marine.
What’s in your refrigerator right now?
Not
a hell of a lot. Two bottles of beer, a slice of pizza, a few cans of Coke, a
jar of spicy mustard, deli turkey and Swiss cheese, a box of Little Debbies,
bacon and eggs, and some fruit cocktail—extra cherries variety. You know now
why I like to eat at Madi’s house.
What smell do you associate with your
childhood? Is it a happy smell?
Fresh
cut hay and saddle leather. It’s a very happy smell. Reminds me of simpler
times and fewer worries.
What’s a typical Saturday morning like
for you?
A
Marine’s inner clock doesn’t discern between week days and weekends, so I’m
typically up with the sun with a cup of coffee in my hand wandering out to the
barn to feed horses. Then I’ll do up my laundry which consists of PT gear and a
couple sets of dirty cammies followed by whatever sports game I can find and a
nap. After that, before I met Madi, I’d be heading out at dusk for the club.
Now I spend my Saturday evenings with her watching scary movies and eating
Chinese take-out.
Do you have any tattoos? What are they?
If you don’t, would you consider getting one and what would it be?
What
Marine doesn’t have tattoos? I’ve got the USMC emblem on my left shoulder and a
rosary on my right. At some point I’d like to get Madi’s name etched on me
somewhere, but she’s reluctant—something about bad luck. Women!
What is your most treasured possession?
Madi’s
love.
Do you have any regrets? What are they?
I
used to regret bachelorhood, but I realize now if I’d not prolonged settling
down for so long, I’d never have met Madi. Now what I did during that time,
several regrets, but can’t change it so I might as well get comfortable with
living with it.
Do you prefer jeans or sweats?
Flip-flops or sneakers?
I
wear combat boots for a living and wouldn’t be caught dead in flip-flops. And
sneakers are for running.
What is your greatest achievement?
Learning
to give as much as I take.
Is there anything you’d like to tell
your writer?
Lady,
if you can’t make people feel! I’d love to hate you for it, but I just can’t.
