On Location - Borneo

Borneo - It was a trip that began by going upriver into the heart of the jungle in a boat that looked something like an airplane fuselage.  At 50 km an hour with logs flying down the opposite direction it wasn't an experience that gave me much comfort.   To top it off I was shaking from the excessive air conditioning and listening to a Kung Fu movie (not in English) at top volume.  And through all of that there was this excitement of entering a world completely not my own.  When I exited that boat onto a large wooden dock I was met with the sights and sounds of a small market where everyone was bustling, hauling packages that seemed to heavy for any one of them to carry.  The steps up from the dock were slick from wear but no less dangerous than the rounded roof of the boat I just exited where unimaginably, some of the late-comers had clung for the duration of that rocky upriver ride.  But despite it all everyone was friendly and curious to know where the obvious foreigners were from.

And that was the beginning of a journey that would take me further upriver and to the doorstep of what was once the headhunters of Borneo and what would be the inspiration of my latest book, Fatal Intent.

Your trip sounds amazing. My next trip I hope will be memorable. We are taking a river cruise down the Rhine.

You know I just heard about a trip down the Rhine. It's supposed to be incredible and much longer than I would have suspected. No matter, I'm sure you'll have a great time!

WELL...I've never had a trip like that. That sounds like quite an experience. I have been to China. That was memorable.

China sounds awesome. I think every place is unique in its own way.
