Sexual Heat with Heart

That's the way I like to write my erotic romances. Lots of steamy intimate scenes and luscious emotional tension leading up to them. To me, the build up makes 'the moment' that much better. As a reader, I want to be on the edge of my seat, murmurring, "Come on, dammit, come on - kiss her!"

As a writer, I do all that I can to bring the characters together emotionally before they do the deed.

I've been true to that structure in all of my romances, and I've done it again with my latest erotic romance Take Me Away, the story of Lexi, a lonely and misunderstood actress, and Kyle, a former NFL quarterback.

Here's a blurb and a brief excerpt to show you what I mean.

         Blurb:

She’s everything he escaped…and all that he desires

Three years ago, Kyle turned his back on a pro-football career and being the target of tabloids or gold-digging groupies. Craving privacy, he gets it at his roadhouse in Northern California until Lexi Sands invades his life. Indulged and surely phony, she’s exactly what Kyle fled.
An actress since childhood, Lexi’s fresh out of an anger management program, court-ordered when she lashed out at a badgering paparazzo. Weary of the press’s harsh scrutiny, she sees Kyle’s secluded cabin as the ideal place to hide out and him as a damn-near perfect alpha male. Deliciously virile. Protective. Principled. She offers him serious cash to let her stay for two weeks, assuring there will be no complications or touching.
Yeah, right. Passion flares, along with tenderness. Kyle recognizes how lonely Lexi really is, while she's falling hard. Through intimate days and impassioned nights, they explore their most shameless needs, until a cruel betrayal exposes their growing love, forcing a choice neither anticipated.

Excerpt:

“I can take my backpack,” Lexi said, advancing, resting her hand on Kyle’s.
At her featherlight touch, bursts of warmth travelled up Kyle’s arm and down his spine, settling in his groin. His erection got harder, his balls compressed even more, becoming painful. Tightening his fingers on the backpack’s strap, he shook his head. His voice rasped, “I’ll put it in the spare room.”
Lexi’s fingers stroked the back of his hand, moving from knuckle to knuckle.
He found it impossible to swallow. His knees wavered.
         She murmured, “Whatever you want.”
Kyle hadn’t a clue what he wanted, and yet he did. She shouldn’t be here, reminding him of what he’d left, taunting him into thinking it was something it was not, tempting him with her sweet voice, the helplessness in her gaze, her succulent body, her loving touch.
He lowered the backpack to the floor, then straightened, facing her. “And what do you want, Lexi?”
She looked at his mouth, then met his eyes. “What you do.”
He heard no guile in her voice and saw none on her face. Color tinted her cheeks. Anticipation of what might happen—what she was trying to make happen—glittered in her eyes. Kyle’s heart hammered so hard, he had difficulty breathing. He wanted to believe her, but a part of him recalled the game Denise had played and nearly won when he hadn’t even been aware of her strategy.
Lexi’s was far less involved and painfully obvious. He’d refused to take her cash. He wasn’t impressed with her wealth or fame. In her mind, that left only a roll around his mattress to get him to keep his word about allowing her to stay. And that pissed Kyle off royally.
“I thought you weren’t interested in sex.” Crowding her with his body, he advanced a step.
She withdrew the same distance, the action seeming to be instinctive. Her eyes widened slightly, sending her slender brows to beneath her bangs.
Kyle tried to determine if her reaction was genuine and couldn’t. He advanced again.
Lexi backed into the wall, her palms against the rough texture, face turning to it.
Giving her no chance to recover, Kyle planted one hand near her head and leaned close, inhaling deeply of her scent, damn near intoxicated by it and the softness, the heat of her body. Lips brushing her ear, he murmured, “Ever.”
A soft, wanton sound escaped her throat. With each halting breath, her breasts pressed into his chest. Resting her hands on his torso, she curled her fingers into his tee. It was more than Kyle could endure. Primal desire flared so quickly, he eased back before he did something they’d both regret.
