Realizing You by Ron Doades and Susan Sloate - Guest Blog and Giveaway

Realizing You by Ron Doades and Susan Sloate is partying with us at the Pavilion today. One randomly chosen commenter will win a $50 Amazon/BN.com gift card. You can see the other stops by clicking on the tour banner.

Why do you think a fictional self-improvement book will help people more than a non-fictional one?

The original idea came from the learning method I have long applied in my management consulting practice. The method—proven to produce lasting change in people’s lives and those of the companies they work for—is based on the premise that the most effective and lasting learning is achieved through showing people models of success, instead of merely telling them about those models. My consulting firm’s long-lasting success derives from facilitating meetings where our clients learn first-hand what those highly successful companies have done and are doing to achieve success—how they manage their resources to achieve the best possible outcomes. After all, that’s what people in their private lives are striving to do—to make the best of what they have in meeting their individual happiness objectives.

So, after years of pondering the best self-improvement learning method, I realized that I need only apply the approach that has been so successful in my firm’s consulting business—show the way, not tell the way. My illuminating, break-through insight was on its way to becoming a reality. I was absolutely convinced that a fictional self-improvement book would greatly enable people to change their lives for the better. I had been living and breathing the answer to the quest of my book idea for 14 years, but didn’t recognize it. I was resolutely convinced that showing people the way to greater personal happiness would have the greatest, sustainable impact on their lives.

A Visit with Jonah Pigg from Protecting His Wolfe by Melissa Keir

Hello everyone.  My name is Jonah Pigg.  Of course my name gets a lot of attention.  I'm a police officer.  Tell me that you haven't heard how police are called pigs.  But to make matters worse, I have two younger brothers.  Yep. We are the three Piggs. I've been taking care of my brothers for most of my life.  Family is very important to me. My brothers and I own and run a detective agency.  I'm more of the silent partner because police work is my passion.  There is nothing like being able to protect others and convict the bad guys.

That's how I met Betsie Wolfe.  She'd found a dead body and was the only witness to the murder.  Now someone was out to get her and it's my job to keep her safe.  I'll never forget that first time I saw her.  She was huddled in a blanket, clearly in shock, yet her beauty shown through.  I think it was her strong determination and will to do what was right and stand on her own two feet that made me fall in love with her.  No matter what was thrown at her, she always stood firm on her moral convictions.  She didn't like to rely on anyone but we all have to get help sometimes.

I'm not going to spoil the story for you but Protecting His Wolfe is a suspensful, sexy tale about love and danger.  Check it out today!

P.S. Protecting His Wolfe will be released this month from Rebel Ink Press and be available at various retailers.  Check out www.melissakeir.com for more information.

Divorce and Second Time's a Charm by Melissa Keir

Divorce and Second Time’s a Charm by Melissa Keir:

Many families are facing divorce or have lived through a divorce.  When I was growing up, I remember only one or two families that had been affected by divorce.  Today divorce is so much more common.

In fact, I am a divorced person.  I married my husband when I was eighteen and thought that we would grow old together.  But after twenty years together and raising two wonderful children, we found that divorce was the best answer for us.  Not that I advocate divorce, nor did I take my decision lightly.  We went through counseling.  Michigan also has a law in place that requires people with children to wait six months from filing to ending.  Talk about a touchy situation.  Can you imagine living with the person that you are divorcing?

Because I had the experience of divorce, I wrote my character Lissa Vincent, from Second Time’s the Charm as a divorcee with two small boys.  I wanted to bring to the story some of the challenges that I faced as I navigated the divorced waters. In fact, four of the characters in Second Time’s the Charm are divorced. Each are in different points of the divorce process.  Chloe and Alex have been divorced for a while and have found a comfortable friendship putting their past behind them.  Chloe has even remarried.  The story shows how accepting Alex is of the new relationship.  Lissa and Steve are still coming to grips to the end of their marriage.  Lissa is feeling very self conscious about herself, physically and emotionally.  Steve is unwilling to allow anyone else to come into his children’s lives.

The divorce isn’t the main character in the story of Lissa and Alex’s love.   It is a story about finding true love in the face of self-doubt and being open to what fate sends your way.  Like Lissa, I did find my own special love and married him.  My divorce added to my life experience and made me the person I am today, just as Lissa’s divorce made her who she was.  Her divorce opened her up to Alex and his charming, caring nature.

I hope that you enjoy Lissa and Alex’s story as they take a chance on each other and on love.

Good Morning from Michigan's Melissa Keir

Hello Everyone and Good Morning...
My name is Melissa Keir and I'm the author of four short novella's now (with more to come!).  What makes my stories interesting is that my characters are people you would meet at the grocery store or even at work.  I write contemporary romance that feature moms with children, divorcees, and small town girls who fight against all odds.

In my life, I'm like one of those characters.  I live in a blended family of his, mine, and ours (ours being the dogs) but I wouldn't want it anyother way! I'm also an elementary school teacher who loves teaching children about the imporance of reading and enjoys instilling that passion for reading in their lives.

I hope that you will get to know me a little bit through my stories.  And that you will find yourself among my characters too... strong work ethic, strong character, a growth mindset, and a belief in love and happily ever after.

If you want to connect with me, my website is www.melissakeir.com. or you can reach me on facebook or twitter.

Adult Excerpt:

He looked even better close up though she damn well wasn’t going to tell him that. He had a swelled head as it was, considering all the honeybees that swarmed all over him. She mentally gathered her defenses. If she didn’t know better, she would have thought she was in lust with Rodrick, impossible as seemed from the way they sniped at each other. Shaking her head slightly, she felt his gaze move to her and heard his startled breath as she walked up to the porch.
“Hey, Rod, slow night?” Jax asked. Her eyes drank in the way his muscles bunched under his t-shirt. She felt her stomach clench, though it could have been the anticipation of food that waited inside the dark mahogany doors. The way he was watching her had her nerves on edge. She didn’t know what the hell his problem was, but Jax was determined to get in and out with her order before Rod pushed her buttons. She just was not up to dealing with him tonight.
 “Yeah, seems everyone is getting ready for the Halloween costume dance tomorrow. What are you up to tonight? Got a dinner date?” Rod growled at her, his eyes shining with a glow that almost made Jax take a step back before she caught herself. Shaking her head, she said, “What the hell is wrong with you tonight? I was going to have dinner with Grady, but he got short-staffed and had to cover tonight. I just wanted to see if I can grab a take out from your mom.” Jax marveled at how normal it was between them. Though she thought the hair on his arms bristled at the thought of her on a date, it probably was her imagination. Rod wasn’t interested in her, just the ones who wanted a good time and an easy lay.
“I am sure my mom would love to give you something since everyone knows you can burn water without even trying.” The smile that tugged at his lips had her eyes go wide then narrow in annoyance.
“What the hell would you know about cooking, you jackass? I bet you couldn’t make something if your life depended on it,” she sneered. Her hands closed into fists and she was tempted to smack him for being so damn annoying. If she didn’t know better, she would have thought there was a smile lingering on his smug face.
“Oh, are you challenging me, Jax? Can’t take the fact that I may actually know something you don’t? Want to take that to a test?” Rod leaned forward, stroked a finger down her nose, and said softly, “Afraid that maybe I can do something that will make you readjust your opinion of me?”
Jax was stunned by the clenching of her pussy as he traced his finger down her nose. If she didn’t know better, she could have sworn there was a flare of interest in his eyes; though it could have been that she was moon-mazed or something. Jax tried to still the weak-kneed response to him touching her as she tried to form an annoying response.
“You can boil water? Oh, my god!” Jax looked up at the darkening sky and then back at Rod. “Wow the sky hasn’t fallen yet. Did you pay off Heaven or something? Has Hell frozen over and no one told the Devil?”
The smile that played on her lips had him growling low in his throat. Jax didn’t know what to think when Rod yanked her to him and said, “You have a death wish don’t you Jax? You really don’t want me to show you that I can do that and so much more.” His voice was low and husky; Jax felt her bones turn to mush as he nipped her ear. He turned her on, no two ways about it and damn it, why him? He has to be the most annoying man on this planet yet he also was sexy as sin and damn it to hell and back, he made her want him with every inch of her being. Trying to shove away from him was like trying to hit a rock with an open palm. He was an immovable object and his eyes, she could have sworn, glowed faintly.
“Will you please let me go, you ass?” Jax tried to keep her voice strong and pissed off but dang it; he was making her stomach do flips every time he nipped her ear. “If you really want to prove to me you can cook, fine. I swear it is like your male ego got in a snit or something.” She huffed and blew her breath out when nothing else seemed to make him let go, though if she were honest with herself, she liked his hands on her body. Still, it wasn’t like she was going to tell this idiot that. No telling what else he would do with that information.
“Is it possible that I can go grab some food before I die of starvation? I swear if that was your goal tonight, Rod, you are not doing a very good job.” Jax said as she felt his hands glide down her arms then let go, the lack of his touch almost had her keening for more. This attraction she had for him was getting out of hand, especially since she and Rod rubbed against each other like oil and water.
Her treacherous body leaned into him before she caught herself and as she glared at him, she didn’t know what the hell was going on tonight but for some reason tonight he was determined to drive her insane.
“Go get your take out, Jax, but tomorrow, make no plans for the evening. I got something to prove and frankly, I am more than a pretty face, Jaxon. I think it’s time for you to see what else I can do besides be the resident “Lathario” as you so charmingly call me.”
“Fine,” She snapped at him, disgusted with her at the way her body aroused from the way his voice. “If it makes your fragile male ego happy to prove something, come on over and frankly it better be edible please. Nothing frou-frou or stuff that I cannot pronounce for god’s sake. I get home about six so come by after that.”
The next thing she knew, he leaned over, snatched her from her spot on the sidewalk and smiled as her eyes widened. “Jaxon, if I didn’t know better, I would say you are intrigued by me making dinner for you. If this keeps up, I think I am going to have to show you some of my other hidden talents.” Then before she could form a coherent thought and punch him, he leaned forward and laid his full wet lips on hers, teasing her with a light caress of his tongue and with light firm kisses until she was panting and flushed. Before she could form a sane thought or even think of pushing him away, she kissed him back, teasing him with hard kisses as her tongue dueled with his as her arms wrapped themselves around his waist. With one last reluctant kiss, he stepped back. His eyes glittered in the moonlight and Jax saw his arousal strain his jeans. “Now the deal is set, Sweets. I will be there around six-thirty so don’t be playing the ’I am late’ game, I will be waiting for you.” Then he sauntered away back into the Inn, leaving her body primed for something and ready to kill him.

News, Reviews and Interviews by Lucy Felthouse

I recently edited my second anthology, and it is now available in eBook and paperback format. Seducing the Myth has been available since early August, and like most authors/editors, I eagerly awaited feedback and reviews. And over the past few days, I've been inundated! Most excitingly, they're all extremely positive:

“Overall I have to say I was pretty pleased with this anthology. The stories were on the fairly short side, but were by in large really hot. Not all of them ended happily, some of the authors chose to stick closely to the ending of the original myth or tale (The True Folly of Icarus by Saskia Walker for instance) and there were some surprises (The Lady of the Flowers is based on a Welsh legend) amongst the normally re-imagine Greek/Roman mythology. And happiest of most I found a few new authors to pick up and try!” 4 out of 5, Night Owl Reviews

“Seducing the Myth will seduce your mind with the hot tales of love and lust contained within its mesmerizing pages… Overall this is an interesting and varied collection with a variety of tales, a true cornucopia of endings, beginnings and middles with lots of lusty passion, tantalizing intrigue and witty charm to keep you coming back time and time again to dip into this treasure trove and pull out a fresh gem.” 5 out of 5, Erotic Whispers

“A collection of short stories filled with erotic intent with tons of mystical creatures this book is a great read! I found myself reading each story in earnest and wanting more and more. This collection was expertly put together to entice you into a whole new world that was enjoyable to read! If you are looking for a great collection of short stories that leaves you wanting more this book is totally for you.” 4 out of 5, Judging The Book By Its Pages

Naturally, myself and the other authors are delighted! Thanks guys, I couldn't have done it without you!

Bag yourself a copy of Seducing the Myth here.

Now, where are these interviews I spoke of, you may be wondering. Well, they're not here. It was a hint of what's to come. October is a very busy month for me, both in terms of releases (four!) and guest blog posts and interviews (I've lost count!). However, if you keep an eye on the sidebar of my website, the dates and URLs will be there so you can check out my other appearances, and many of them will also have competitions, so don't miss out! Also, as we speak I'm away on holiday with no computer or internet access, but don't let that stop you leaving me comments. I'll check in when I'm back!

Kisses in the Shadows

First kisses... Who doesn't remember their first kiss? And all the feelings that come along with it? I know I do. While most of my characters had their first kisses long before the story begins, that first kiss between hero and heroine is just as important...and nerve-wracking to write! LOL That first smooch "on stage" - whether a passionate, wrapped-around-each-other kiss or a closed-mouth, quick meeting of the mouth - is a hint of the relationship to come and sets the mood for the story.

I thought I'd share the first kisses in my Into the Shadows series. Three very different kisses - the uncertain kiss between the human and the vampire she fears, the first kiss in years between former lovers, and the forbidden kiss between hunter and hunted - and three very emotionally charged moments for the characters.

Sarah’s lips trembled. She stared into his eyes, as if searching. Unable to resist, Fen closed the space between them. Flicking his tongue over her lips, he relished her quick intake of breath before capturing her mouth.

He drank it all in. He could easily become addicted to the taste of this human. He cupped her face and traced the bottom edge of her lip before adding pressure to open her further to his exploring tongue. She gripped his forearms and slowly slid her tongue around his in an intoxicating dance.

Everything about her assaulted his senses—the softness of her skin, the sweet taste of her mouth, the tangy citrus scent of her hair, the little noises she made in the back of her throat… She was inside him now, winding her way into his very being.

As much as he wanted to, he didn’t stop her when she pulled away. She pushed lightly on his chest and he accommodated her by taking a step back and releasing her. She lifted her hand and touched her mouth.

“I want to believe you,” she whispered, “but I can’t.”

~~~~*~~~~
“You just can’t wait to get away from me, can you?” she whispered, then cringed. Why did she just say that?
Jae spun around and took a step forward. Without thinking, she backed up. Again, he moved forward. Again and again. Until she was against the wall and he was pressed to her front.
“Kind of a role reversal, isn’t it, Rina? Last time around, you couldn’t wait to get away from me.”
Before she had a chance to respond, his mouth was on hers. It was nothing like the kisses she remembered. There was no coaxing, no tenderness, no teasing. He simply demanded. He took.
He thrust his tongue into her mouth, and she groaned as his taste invaded her senses. Gripping her hips, he lifted her slightly and wedged his leg between hers. Rina pushed her hands beneath his leather coat and flattened her palms against his hard back. The yearning to touch him, to feel his skin against hers overwhelmed her. Gods, she wanted him more than she realised, more than she remembered.
~~~~*~~~~

“Brielle?” His sleepy voice danced along her spine.

“I’m right here.” She leant forward and, again giving into some deep urge, brushed the hair back from his forehead. “It’s okay now, go back to sleep.”

He caught her by the wrist and opened his sleepy blue eyes. He lifted his hand and cupped the back of her head, then he rose up and pressed his mouth to hers. Brielle froze in shock. Seth parted his lips, and his tongue darted out and traced her bottom lip. Her eyes slid shut as heat pooled between her legs. Oh gods. She opened to him before she realised what she was doing. Then she just didn’t care whether she should or shouldn’t as his tongue twined around hers. His flavour teased her senses—bold, almost peppery and definitely appealing, beneath the faint beer taste.

And as quickly as it began, it ended. His head dropped onto the pillow, his hands released her, and his eyes drifted closed.

“Tasted as good as I thought you would. Damn you,” he murmured.

Thanks to the fab LASR/WC and Goddess Fish for having this Valentine's shindig. I know I'm having a blast reading all the posts! Happy Valentine's Day to all. Here's to all those first smooches, may we always remember! ;-)

Glad All Over ~ Wendi Zwaduk

One of my favorite holidays isn't Christmas, or even my birthday. Nope. It's Valentine's Day. Why? for those of you know know me well, you'll know I have a sweet spot for chocolate. I mean, my first date with DH was to a CHOCOLATE STORE. Am I a little obsessed? Maybe. **Shrugs**

So I thought for this post, even though we're in a culture of health and fitness, I'd post my favorite things about Valentine's Day--in virtual format. I mean, the best treats have no calories.

My indulgence of choice is the caramel chocolates. That ooey gooey in the middle is sooooo yummy. But sadly, I only have these in very tiny amounts because, like the chocolate covered caramel popcorn I'd eat when I was pregnant, I'd eat the whole bag in one sitting. Oh man, they are that good.

As I was looking for candy pictures,
I came across the old reliable, conversation hearts. Personally, I think they taste like chalk. I didn't like them when we got them as gifts in school and I detest them now. But, I've often wondered, and maybe it's been done, what would an author do with those little pastel candies? Yanno? I mean, string a handful together and see what phrase comes up. Maybe it's the main line for a new character. Maybe it's the crucial line in love scene. Ya never know.
Maybe I should call Megan and issue a challenge. Hmmmm....

What's your poison? Chocolates? Flowers? Nookie?Jewelry? Or don't you care?
Dh is under the impression Valentine's Day is just there for people to make money. Yeah, you won't see him rushing to the store to buy anything. He's not much on chocolate and "flowers die". Spoil sport. I'll take chocolate any day, so really it doesn't affect me. Actually that's what I tell him. I mean, I'm a romantic. Yeah, I love a good love story.

So what do I do to celebrate Valentine's Day? I let my characters have at it. Oh yeah, I get with my BFF and we have little challenges to see who can write the most romantic scene.
And like the conversation heart challenge, we use a sweet, a body part, and a hunk from tv. Megan loves it. Her stories tend to be darker than mine, but hey, it's still a blast.

Let me know what's on your Valentine's wish list. I'd love to know and chatter with you about it.

True Love's First Kiss ~ Wendi Zwaduk

Ah, the fun of the first kiss. Actually there’s nothing like writing about one, but what’s even better is writing the fits and hiccups that come before the first kiss. When I wrote Right Where I Need to Be, my hero was literally chomping at the bit to kiss the heroine. He forgot one minor problem—she wasn’t at all interested in kissing him. Here’s how it went:

Her body relaxed. Her sigh, like the mew of a kitten, thrust him into a new dimension. He wanted more, way more. His hands rubbed her back and trailed up her soft body to cup her jaw.
His eyelids drooped. He wanted to kiss her.
Cass tilted her face to look at him. “What do you think you’re doing?” Her no-nonsense tone jarred his common sense back into play. What was he doing? “Just because I liked you for the part Logan, doesn’t mean I like you.” She wriggled out of his grasp. “I’m not a notch on your belt. If that’s your inclination, then I’ll give the role to Mr. Speedle.”
He felt like she punched him in the stomach. She should’ve. “Cass, I’m not used to women walking away.”
Cass straightened her spine and squared her shoulders. “Then turn around so you don’t see me leave.” With that, she spun on her heel and left.

Yeah, he was more than a little taken aback and irritated with me. I mean, how could I, the author, take the chance to kiss the woman he’s infatuated with, from a Hollywood star?

Apparently, very easily. It wasn’t supposed to just happen like a story book (er...pardon the pun). I wanted that boy to work. At the same time, I wanted them to kiss because I liked them and I really liked the sparks when they were together. So what’s a writer to do?
Make him suffer a little longer and then make the moment that much sweeter. Like this:

His words washed over her like a waterfall. She wanted to give in, but if she touched him, she’d never be able to pull away. She turned back around. “Logan this can’t—”

He stood inches from her. His eyes flashed just as he lowered his lips to hers. A warm rush flowed from her brain all the way to her toes. She felt sparks radiate from his fingertips as he twined them with hers. A moan escaped her throat. Oh, he tasted too good to walk away from. But in that instant, he pulled back. “That’s just a sampling,” he murmured. “We could continue all night long, if you desire.”
Cass swallowed hard. His erection jabbed into her stomach. Maybe she could turn a man on after all. More thunder crashed, spooking the dog.“I’d better go,” she whispered.
Logan nodded. “I’ll be here if you need me.”

I just love it when things happen in a nice progression but not too easily. But now that I’ve whetted your whistle, I want to know...in your reading/writing ventures, what’s your favorite first kiss? Why was it so memorable? I’ll be back later, but I am absolutely checking and will respond to all comments.
I’ll leave you with the blurb for Right Where I Need to Be

Sometimes the love of your life isn’t the one you expect, but he’s the one you need.

Cass Jenson needs an actor for her made for TV movie. The previous actor dropped out, leaving her stranded. Her savior shows up looking sinfully sexy and totally right for the part, but what part is she auditioning him for? Her movie or her bed?

Logan Malone needs an acting job and fast. With his string of broken hearts, his professional life lies in shambles. To resurrect his career, he must audition for a television role which could be the job of a lifetime. That is, if he can work with distraction and Cass is a major distraction with a heart of gold. Is their budding relationship enough to survive separation, lies, and a couple zany fans?
