New Release Party

I am thrilled to be here today. Thank you Goddess Fish Folks, for opening your door to host our party. I can't wait to share with you though out the day about my upcoming release on May 15, 2011 Paradox.

However, let me start by tell you a bit about myself. Most folks who write...it's been a dream of theirs for a long time and they seem to be born with a pen. However, that's so not the case with me. Up until middle school, I struggled with reading and writing. On top of all that, I believe I'd rank in the top 100 of the world's worst spellers. But God is awesome. He sometimes turns what we think of as our greatest weakness and uses them for His glory.

I started writing on a whim really. My husband and I were expecting our first child. While he was out many evenings working, don't ask my why, but I decided I'd like to try and write a story. Much to my surprise, I fell in love with dreaming up characters and plots. That was 14 years ago.

I've been at it off and on ever since. I can't even begin to tell you all that I've learned. The importance of being patience is at the top of the list.

How about you... have you ever, or are you currently doing something you never thought you would?

Birth Announcement of "Subspecies"

BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT
My employer, Cynthia Meadows, recently emerged lycan who exploded into the world of high fashion modeling with the force of an Atom bomb, wishes to announce the birth of “Subspecies”. The healthy novel of 73,400 words came into the world in May 6, 2011 at 12:01 AM. It is a sexy paranormal romance about the deep and enduring love between two special beings. Ms. Meadows, AKA “The Fashion Model Known as Cynthia”, will sponsor a series of promotions to be held throughout the web in honor of Samantha “Sam” Johnson, lycan mate of Doctor Jim White, vampire and professor of mathematics, to celebrate the book’s release as well as the imminent arrival of The Subspecies' First Children, a litter of three, two females and a male. See the first at http://www.tony-paul.com/

Due to Ms. Meadow's recent fortunate change in circumstances, the event has been relocated from Doctor White's apartment to the Grand Ballroom of the Charles Weston, the crown jewel of hotels in this university town.

The event is monumental for all subspecies. As the first lycan/vampire couple, Sam and Jim have discovered the key to reproducing our kind.

All subspecies as well as their human familiars are invited.

“SUBSPECIES” BLURB

A sexy paranormal romance about the deep love between two very special beings

With Samantha “Sam” Johnson, Dr. Jim White, a 130-year-old Vampire, has the best sex of his life and it’s a shame she had to be his next victim.  But she had a surprise for him.  As a Lycan, she hunted him as he hunted her.  After discovering each other’s secret, they cannot resist the physical attraction. Together they hunt and reach out to others of their kind using technology to form a support group.  Sam and Jim become the first Lycan/Vampire pair bond.

As a mathematics professor and man of science, Dr. Jim rejects the ways and lore of old in favor of modern solutions that, if not acceptable to humans, allow Lycans and Vampires, The Subspecies, to live invisibly, because discovery is their worst fear.

The Subspecies are a mutation within the human genome.  No more than 700 have been alive at one time.  They cannot breed with humans or within their own group, but an unexpected event rocks the world of subspecies, opening a universe of possibilities with the promise of their lives being more than hunting, living in shadows, and fruitless mating.

PG EXCERPT
(Sam is interviewing Jim about his “theories” on vampires. He has misgivings regarding the project, agreeing to it only because diminutive red haired beauty completely enthralled him.)

“Do they marry or have relationships with one another or with humans?”
I thought again of Lois. “I would think vampires don’t marry in the sense you and I understand it. ‘Mate’ is the term they use for spouse. A ‘pair bond’ represents their equivalent of marriage. Of course in a relationship with a human they would use the conventional human terms: woman for female, spouse for mate. That sort of thing. To answer your next question,” I continued. “No, vampires cannot breed with humans or one another. They are as sterile as mules. In fact propagation is one of the vampire’s great quests.”
Her interest had settled into the routine assimilation and recording of facts, but now her eyebrows suddenly rose. “Great quests?” she asked with new interest.
“Yes. In my theory, they have two imperatives. These are to propagate, and to integrate with human society. They have almost given up on the first since no young have been conceived in all of their history, spanning probably several millennia, but there is hope for the second through improved feeding methods and other advances. The Holy Grail is to find a substitute for human blood, removing the need to hunt. It’s every vampire’s dream.”
For sure, I wanted nothing more. The new methods of feeding had allowed us to blend. As long as we changed identities every twenty years or so and stayed smart with hunting we could expect to live out our lives in relative safety, albeit in isolation. Most of us wanted more. We dreamed of living side by side in full disclosure.
Sam smiled knowingly and jotted a quick note in her book. “You just said it’d be every vampire’s dream. Don’t you mean in your theory it would be every vampire’s dream?”
I cleared my throat uneasily at having so amateurishly slipped up. She distracted me so completely. “Yes, of course. These are theories only,” I hoped the reply didn’t sound hurried. I didn’t need a wannabe female Van Helsing snooping around in my life. A mushy feeling of relief spread in my chest when she moved on to another question, apparently losing interest in the issues surrounding our coexistence with humans.
“If there are so few of them and they are scattered all over the world, how do they find others of their kind to pass on knowledge? How do they learn what–uh–who they are?” She asked.
I smiled at her, relieved and newly confident she suspected nothing. Once again, I surreptitiously pored over the well-turned little body while I prepared to answer “Of course all I have told you is fantasy, but to flesh out the illusion I surmise vampires have a way to sense another's presence, possibly through scent. The older ones seek out and mentor the young whenever the opportunity presents. The process is random and unreliable. Until well into the twentieth century practically all of them lived and died as misfits or outcasts without ever meeting another. The coming of the Internet made finding others much easier and more successful. Through it, the Internet, knowledge passed more efficiently and mentoring improved.”
Sam took more notes, nodding in agreement. “It makes sense.” Her eyes locked with mine. “So Dr. Jim, if this were all true doesn’t it mean you are one of them?” She sat back and awaited my answer with an appraising expression.
I played dumb. “Yes, I suppose. If it were true,” I answered, carefully watching her reaction.
After a tense second she threw her head back, exposing a delectable throat, and laughed. “As you said, it’s all a theory.”
My mood relaxed, certain she did not suspect. “More tea?” she asked rising partially erect to pour. For the first time I caught the full range of her scent.
She broadcast a definite receptiveness to my overtures.
I am no glamor boy but I get my fair share of second looks from women. I am a shade over six feet and around two hundred pounds. My legs and arms are long for my body. These are coupled with narrow hips gradually angling to wiry but square shoulders, what Lois used to call a matador’s build. I have a long thin face with sharp features except for the knobby nose. I wear reading glasses now and tend to peer out at the world over them, giving my face a semi-permanent inquisitive wide-eyed expression like an owl. All placed under a head of–thankfully–still thick and glossy brown hair. Women frequently tell me they would kill for it.
We returned to the discussion of vampires and spent another hour filling in my “theories”. As it turned out I didn't need scent to estimate the strength of her interest. She made it clear by what she did during my visit, such as giving the view I avoided taking when she stood at the top of the ladder. Upon setting down the antique tea set she bent sharply away from me. Her skirt rode up from behind. Thighs, indented at the apex, created a diamond shaped opening through to the skirt material on the other side. A sliver of white cloth furrowed the prominent but narrow cleft between the hard globes of her butt cheeks, and expanded into a triangular pouch filled with her intimate flesh and its promise of paradise.
She turned in a blur and faced me. The candlelight behind darkened her hair to a light burgundy. Her smile gleamed from a shadowed face. “You’ve been very patient and helpful, Dr. Jim.” Taking my larger hand in her much smaller one she coaxed me to my feet.
“Where are we going?”
The bright perky face in the full candlelight smiled, “To show you the rest of the apartment.” Pulling my hand with a surprisingly strong grip, she led us to the bedroom.

Good Morning! Rie McGaha is in the house!

Author Rie McGaha

Hello everyone. I want to first say thank you to Judy & Marianne for hosting the Goddess Fish Release Party, and for inviting me to be here. I hope everyone has a great day, and now let me introduce myself.

I'm Rie McGaha, and I write romance across all genres, sometimes in the same story. I've never been one to pay much attention to rules, and I write what I like to read and hope someone else will want to read it as well.

I live in SE Oklahoma in the Kiamichi Mountains. I love the trees, mountains, lakes and rivers here, as well as the sparse population. This is my idea of paradise and I can't imagine living anywhere else.

I'm the mother of 7 girls and 5 boys, and I have 34 grandchildren, with #35 due any day, and #36 coming in September.

My latest book, Calen is the first in the My Soul To Keep Trilogy from Silver Publishing. It's due to release on May 14, 2011. Along with Stormy Glenn & GA Hauser, I have a huge contest planned for that day. You can get all the details at Blog Blast 2011. Following my links is the cover art and blurb.

Blurb:

When Calen MacLeod begins having dreams of an ethereal beauty who beckons to him, he passes it off as just having an itch he hasn't scratched in a long time. But when he leaves on a journey to find her, following the directions she's given him in his dreams, he begins to doubt his sanity. And when he finds himself high in the Mackinaw Mountains in a secret fortress with unicorns and a pink and white castle, surrounded by women, each one more beautiful than the next, it's a fantasy no man would want to wake up from. But Arianna is the only woman for Calen.

The women of the Fortress have lived in peace, hidden away from the humans who tried to annihilate them all. But now a 500-year-old demon is out to destroy the women's matriarch, Ariella, and he'll stop at nothing to complete his mission. When Calen MacLeod shows up, he throws a wrench into Damon's plans. Never let it be said Damon isn't ready for anything, but when he kidnaps Arianna and takes her to modern day San Francisco, is he ready to meet Calen, who will stop at nothing to save his ladylove?

Obsessed by Lisa Sanchez-blurb and excerpt

Hey, peeps! My name is Lisa Sanchez, and I wrote Obsessed, an erotic suspense published with Loose Id. Woot!

Today marks the start of my virtual book tour, the first stop: Book Of Secrets Make sure to stop by and leave a comment as I'll be giving away a $20 Amazon GC to one random commenter along the tour.

Since you're here, let me go ahead and share some of Nick and Halley's story with you.
Here's the back cover blurb:

The victim of both a brutal attempted rape and now a serial stalking, Halley Davis is broken, and desperate to glue the shattered pieces of her life back together. Tormented by a psychopath and battling a heavy dose of anxiety, sex and dating are the last things on Halley’s anxiety-ridden mind. That is, until she meets the man who rescued her from the hands of a would-be rapist. With a body made for sin, a wicked, sexy tattoo and an aura that screams “badass,” her rescuer not only calms the storm of terror raging inside her mind, he ignites a passion within her she’s never known before.
Tired of using meaningless sex to drown out the horrors of his past, Nick Ackart has sworn off women. In fact, if women were classified as meat, his ass is Vegan. Despite his determination to remain unattached, Nick is unable to stay away from the emerald-eyed beauty he rescued from a sadistic pervert. Immersed in a tangled web of sexual desire and deep emotion he was certain was long dead, he vows to protect Halley from the monster hounding her, even though he stands to lose his heart in the process.
Publisher's Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Violence.

***
Obsessed's leading man, Nick Ackart is one of my favorite characters. Bad Boy has shut down and tuned out in an effort to run from his horrific past. Booze, women and work are the perfect panacea until he crosses paths with our heroine, Halley Davis. That's when things get really interesting.

Here's a small blurb that gives you an idea as to where Nick's head is at the start of the novel:

Damon sat back in his seat and ran a hand through his dark hair. “Dude, you need to get laid.”
Nick palmed his beer and took a lazy sip. He scanned the bar, eyeballing the cesspool of desperation and hedonistic gluttony with a sour stomach. Nothing but a sea of “fuck me to fill my empty void” as far as the eye could see. He shook his head and scowled.
“Not interested.”
The bar was full. Hell, it was always full. Located at the corner of Grant and Columbus in the heart of San Francisco’s North Beach, the Black Diamond was the place to be on a Friday night.
After a long day of pounding nails and running electrical conduit, all Nick wanted was to get plowed, go home, and sleep it off. Alcohol-induced, comalike sleep. He didn’t get enough of that lately.
“I don’t know, man. I think your dick fell off. Did you grow a vagina and not tell me?”
Nick glared at his best friend and slammed his empty beer bottle onto the smooth surface of the black table. Damon didn’t know when to keep his damn trap shut. “Why don’t you back up off my shit? Why are you so interested in my dick?”
Damon pushed back from the table and stood. At six-three, two hundred plus pounds, his aura radiated “don’t fuck with me.” Not that Nick was afraid. Damon might have fifteen pounds of muscle on him, but he didn’t have half of Nick’s rage.
Damon jabbed a large finger in his direction and growled. “I’m not interested in your johnson, peckerhead. I just want my friend back. You’ve been one nasty SOB for the last couple of weeks, and I need a goddamn break.” With one final glare, he stalked away, launching a string of curses, half of which Nick had never heard before.
Frowning, Nick crossed his arms over his chest with a sigh and watched Damon hotfoot it to the bar, pimping himself the entire way. The guy worked out daily to stay fit, and the ladies…well, they fell all over him. With his messy black hair, dark eyes, and carefree attitude, Damon Gianakos was a veritable magnet.
Nick picked at the label on his beer and scowled. Damon was right. He had been acting like a complete tool the past few weeks, but he didn’t know how to stop. An enormous black cloud followed him wherever he went. He couldn’t break free from the darkness, couldn’t find his happy place, but that wasn’t surprising. His happy place was dead and gone—buried six feet under damp soil, green grass, and warm Texas sun. He closed his eyes, shutting out the neon blue haze covering everyone and everything in the bar. What he wouldn’t give for just a sliver of peace, a moment of pure, soul-easing quiet.
