FREE copy of Somebody to Love! (Giveaway!)

Would you like a FREE copy of Somebody to Love?

Connecting emotionally with people is why writers write. I think all authors would agree that reader feedback is all-important. Without reader/reviewers most authors would possibly sink without trace. Five star reviews are fabulous, of course they are ~ the sense of relief, disbelief, and absolute euphoria when you get a five star makes many years of blood, sweat and tears worthwhile. All reviews are important, though. Feedback is how we learn and grow as writers. I would therefore love to offer anyone who would be prepared to write an honest review of Warrant for Love (newly released and feeling a bit lonely :() a free Kindle or pdf copy of Somebody to Love.

Anyone interested, will need to click on the Facebook link at the bottom of this post, ‘like’ my Author page, and then message me privately with their email address. For interest, I’ve popped two further reviews of Somebody to Love below:

Another hilarious tale from a fabulous author who never fails to make me laugh out loud lots! The first book of Sheryl’s that I read was only a few weeks ago, it was called Recipes for Distaster and my review can be found here. I couldn't wait to get started on this one, and once again, she has managed to produce another fantastic rib tickler!
Single Mom Donna has a bullying and cheating ex-husband and even though they’re not together anymore, he still thinks he can control her life and mess their son about as and when he feels like it. She meets Mark, a single dad and policeman, and they hit it off immediately and would like their relationship to develop. He wants to look after her and protect her and she wants to share her life with him.

Mark, is keeping a secret from her though and the secret is that his son Karl is autistic. He hasn’t told her about him yet, as in the past, people have not accepted his son and girlfriends have found it too much for them. Unbeknown to both of them, Donna is actually helping out at the centre that Karl goes to as she really feels that helping children such as Karl is her vocation in life and she wants to do this for a full time job.

They send each other many mixed messages and there are many hilarious moments when he thinks one thing and she thinks another and they totally get their wires crossed all the time, each not really knowing how the other feels.

This really is a wonderful story, not only is it a really lovely feel-good read, it also enabled me to learn a lot more about autism - a subject that I’ve been quite ignorant of in the past and I felt that reading about it in this way was a nice way for me to learn more.

A beautiful thing happens to Karl when he gets a “friend” who is specially trained to help him through a lot of everyday situations he normally finds difficult and the way that it is written in the book is truly heart-warming and positively enchanting!

Sheryl’s writing is fabulous. She manages to make you laugh out loud constantly and her stories are so natural and true to life. You always feel like you’d like to meet the characters in her books, they are always so genuine and sincere and you want them to be your friends. They are the sort of people you live next door to. Reading about them is completely effortless, the pages turn themselves and you just can’t put the book down.

The parts when Donna meets up with the woman that her husband went off with were just hysterical and Donna does and says everything that we probably all would want to do and say in that situation.

Her work is always amusing and a true pleasure to read. A wonderful reading experience which I thoroughly enjoyed! It also has a perfect ending in my opinion, and was exactly what I wished for.
Kim The Book Worm

Somebody to love is that rare breed, a book that I wished I had written myself. I was miffed that real life intervened and I had to occasionally put the book down before I had finished. It has the lot, romance, heart ache giggles and cute animals. As someone who has worked with special needs children for many years I thought the autistic child Karl was very true to life.It is very sensitively written. I was rooting for Donna and Mark from page one. Read this book, you won't be disappointed.

Emotions! From love to hate and everything in between--you'll experience every emotion in "Somebody to Love." This book had me feeling sympathy for Donna after her breakup, anger towards her husband, and disdain for his new flame, all the while chuckling to myself at Donna's way of handling the situations she's faced with. Donna's new love interest, Mark, captures our hearts, not only with his good looks and suave manners, but with his dedication to Karl, his autistic son.  Sheryl Browne does an excellent job of portraying, step by step, the breakthroughs made in Karl's development. She incorporates these events into her story in bits and bites for us to savour along the way. If you want a "feel good" story that will involve your emotions, read "Somebody to Love." Just be sure to set aside some spare time because you won't want to put this book down.

Confounded, Confused and In Love ~

Warrant for Love

~ three couples in a twisting story that resolves perfectly.

Life for Paul is like a typical country song. He comes from a broken home, his wife is divorcing him, he's got no place to live, he's losing custody of his son, he’s drinking too much and his sergeant, who's sleeping with his wife, is a loud-mouthed bully who won't let up on him – not even at work.

Before Leanne Curtis can give her cheating boyfriend what for, she's wrongfully arrested for soliciting – by Paul and his partner.  There’s an undeniable attraction though and things could be looking up for Paul, except for Leanne's friends, Nicky and Jade, who have man issues of their own and also have it in for Leanne’s ex.  Leanne wants closure, Paul wants a home, Nicky and Jade want revenge.  Blackmail, lies, adultery, entrapment.  Will it work out in the end or will Paul uphold the law?

EXCERPT

Lee emerged from the loo, having slipped into the natty little number Nicky had provided, to find Clooney squirming under cool surveillance from Nicky and Jade. He gave Lee a small smile, then dropped his gaze as two sets of eyes continued to bore holes in his skull.
Nicky sniffed and turned her attention to Lee. ‘Better?’ she asked her more comfortably clothed, if not couture, sister.
‘Much.’ Lee eyed her flower-festooned sarong affair forlornly.
‘I know it’s a bit garish,’ Nicky conceded, ‘but at least it fits. Your bum certainly doesn’t look big in it.’
‘Thank you for that, Nicky. Would you like to pop over and ask the nice officer if you can use his walkie-talkie? You can broadcast the size of my vitals to the entire police force then.’
‘Whoops. Sorry.’ Nicky looked suitably sheepish. ‘Come on, let’s go get you a medicinal drink and you can tell us all about it.’
Lee sighed and blinked back a tear. ‘It’s me who should be apologising. I’m sorry, Nicky. It’s just… Richard’s been cheating on me! Screwing some trollop with size ten feet, behind my back! Right under my nose!’
As Nicky and Jade steered Lee towards the door and more privacy ,out of nowhere Jade commented, ‘He’s actually a bit of a dish, isn’t he?’ She gave Lee a nudge. ‘The blushing policeman?’
‘I hadn’t noticed.’ Lee glanced over her shoulder in female reflex, to check. ‘He is a bit, I suppose. But obviously a complete himbo.’
Nicky gave Jade a sidelong glance. ‘Jade, Lee’s had a very traumatic experience. She might be a little too emotionally vulnerable right now to be embarking on another relationship, don’t you think?’
‘Which is why sex with no strings would do her the world of good. Getting too emotionally involved is Lee’s problem.’
‘Jade!’ Nicky admonished.
‘Not that I’d be likely to be embarking on anything with him anyway,’ Lee offered wearily. ‘He’s probably got a list of admirers in his little black book, or a supermodel sort at home. I think I can safely say he wouldn’t be interested in me. You, possibly.’
‘Me?’
‘Yes, you. With your looks and a cleavage that owes nothing to plunge bras, why wouldn’t he be? But flat-chested, fat-bottomed me? Wearing madam’s floral sarong and his baggy sweater, I don’t think…’
She stopped in her tracks. ‘The sweater. I’d better give it back.’
‘Good idea.’ Jade nodded. ‘Pop back in topless. That should get his attention.’
‘I very much doubt it.’ Lee clutched at her skirt in order to negotiate the station steps without splatting her face on the pavement. Parting company with her teeth would just about round the day off nicely. ‘He’d probably die laughing. Once he’d figured out which way I was facing.’
‘I hate to disagree, hon, but the guy didn’t take his eyes off you the whole time we were there. And I know that look.’
‘That’s probably because he couldn’t believe them.’
‘Miss Curtis?’ Lee heard someone call out behind her. She turned to see Clooney standing on the station steps.
‘What on earth does he want now?’ Lee hissed. ‘To arrest me for stealing his sweater?’
‘We’d better go and find out,’ Jade suggested, eyeing Clooney curiously. ‘Come on.’
Lee sucked in a breath. ‘Right.’ She nodded, then, shoulders back and head high, she walked defiantly toward him.
Paul’s stomach tied itself in a knot when Lee paused in front of him, arms folded and flanked by her friends. He wished they’d back off. Obviously she needed her mates after the night she’d had, but they were practically grafted on.
‘I, er, wondered…’ Paul stopped and ran his hand over his neck. Wondered what? Whether you fancied going out for a drink sometime, with the copper who just arrested you? Yes, right. Idiot. ‘The, er, jumper,’ he finally mumbled, his courage deserting him. ‘I wondered if I could collect it… sometime.’
‘Told you he was interested. Go on, hon.’ The tall, dark-haired one gave Lee a less than subtle shove in his direction. ‘Give him your number.’
‘He’s got it, on the arrest form.’ Lee informed her, unimpressed eyes fixed on his. ‘I’ll drop it off,’ she said flatly.
Paul nodded. ‘Right. Great. Fine. I’ll see you then. Possibly. If I’m not on duty, that is.’ He smiled awkwardly.
Lee didn’t reciprocate. ‘I’ll ring and make sure you are. Now, is that all, or…’ She trailed off as his sergeant ambled down the station steps and slapped Paul on the shoulder. ‘Trying to pull her again, hey, Davis?’
Paul glanced down, knowing Cummings was about to wind him up, just like he always did, because he knew damn well that it was more than Paul dared do to retaliate. One of these days, though. His jaw tightened as Cummings went on, inevitably, embarrassingly.
‘Maybe you should ask the next one out before you arrest her, hey? Just a suggestion.’ Cummings looked from Paul, whose gaze was now fixed firmly on his shoes, to Lee, his eyes roving lewdly over her, before he turned, chuckling at his own knife-edged wit, back to the station. ‘Oh, by the way,’ he called over his shoulder ‘your wife’s on the phone.’

TRAILER ~ Safkhet Publishing Summer Reads

Somebody to Love ~
How do you tell her?

After that idiot of a husband ran off with that broomstick of a girl, single-mom Donna thinks there's no sunshine in her future. What she needs now is a hunk of a guy who loves her and her three-legged dog with no complications.

Mark is a single dad with two big worries – protect and serve, and his autistic son Karl. Desperately he wants someone who'll love him and his son without question and with no complications. He's been hurt before and Karl needs stability – not short dates. So he'll do anything for his kid – even lie to protect him.

Can these two get it together and get together? Is Mark the hunk Donna needs? Is Donna the rock Mark can lean on? If they look hard enough, can they find Somebody to Love?

EXCERPT

Mark wasn’t so sure Karl’s efforts to relate to the dog by peeing on the lawn was such a good idea, but he’d work on that later, he decided, still not quite able to get his head around seeing Karl tucking the quilt around Starbuck when he’d woken in the night.
His son was obviously benefiting from the tactile stimulation offered by the dog, but that he seemed to respond to Starbuck, show him affection — that was almost incomprehensible.
‘Whoa, slow down!’ Mark span around, dropping dog-food onto his shoes as Karl came shaving past in pursuit of Starbuck, and judging by the dog’s galloping gait and swishing tail he was thoroughly enjoying himself.
My Sam, Starbuck. My Sam,’ Karl said, trying to retrieve his favourite Fireman Sam soft-toy from the dog’s mouth.
‘Karl, slow down,’ Mark repeated, as dog and boy went round in circles playing tug-of-war. On the other hand, don’t. Mark’s breath caught in his chest as he watched Karl chuckling softly to himself, which was an everyday occurrence for most parents, but music to Mark’s ears.
Shaking his head in amazement, he continued to spoon dog-food into the bowl. He’d have to start Karl on the feeding and brushing Starbuck regime soon, hopefully teaching him that with dog ownership came responsibility. Introducing him to the idea of walking Starbuck was the first step though. He’d start him on that tomorrow when he wasn’t on duty. Take a trip to the park, maybe, which would give them some space.
‘Come on, guys, food,’ he called over dog and boy still at noisy play. ‘You know the routine, Karl. We have to clear our own breakfast things away, not leave them for Jody.’
Mark clanged the dog’s bowl down on the floor, then winced as Karl bellowed behind him, ‘Doooon’t! Don’t do that!’
Karl’s voice was hoarse and agitated and Mark realised his mistake straightaway. The noise; a loud, different noise, could destabilise Karl in an instant. ‘Karl, it’s okay.’ He went over to him, to try to reassure him, but Karl squirmed out of his grasp.
‘Don’t do that!’ he grated, backing off with his hands clamped to his ears.
‘Karl, stop. It’s all right. It was just Starbuck’s…’ Hell, here we go. Mark’s heart sank in anticipation of the inevitable tantrum.
‘No!’ Karl screamed, heading straight for the wall, to bang his head against it — repeatedly against the bloody wall.
‘Karl, stop it!’ Mark chased him, made a grab for him, wrapped his arms around him.
Fell to his knees, and then to the floor with him.
Tried to soothe him.
To hold him.
‘It’s all right, Karl. It’s okay.’ He locked his arms around his son, rocked with him, but still Karl writhed and kicked. ‘Starbuck says it’s all right, Karl,’ Mark tried in desperation, glancing at the dog, and then again in disbelief as the dog came closer — and placed a paw on Karl’s leg.
Mark simply could not believe what his eyes were telling him.
The tantrum stopped dead.
He sucked in a breath, waited a beat, then tentatively relaxed his grip.
Karl stood up. Mark gasped, truly incredulous now. He just stood up as in nothing was happening and walked calmly over to the dog.
‘It’s all right,’ Karl said, patting Starbuck. ‘It’s just Starbuck’s…’ He repeated what Mark had said, including the trail off, then walked casually through to the lounge, Starbuck in tow.
Mark stayed where he was on the floor, blinking stupefied for a second, then looking up as Jody came down the hall, closely followed by Sally, who must have arrived with her. Had they seen?
‘Did you?’ He shook his head and stared at them, still in a state of utter amazement. Nothing, but nothing, had ever been able to dissuade Karl from a tantrum before.
Sally smiled. ‘I did mention he was trained to respond to a child’s repetitive behaviour.’
Mark raked his hand through his hair. ‘Yes, but I thought that would be the rocking to and fro and hand-flapping stuff, not…’
‘Banging his head? Stamping his feet?’ Sally gave Mark a knowing look.
Mark nodded. Of course. ‘Christ, that dog is working magic nothing short of miraculous.’
‘He aims to please,’ Sally assured him. ‘And the spin-off is, in ceasing the repetitive behaviours, Karl might interact with Starbuck more, thus becoming more perceptive of the dog’s needs and hopefully transferring those accomplishments to humans. There are no guarantees, of course,’ she stressed, walking across to assist him from the floor, ‘but…’
‘… he’s making progress.’ Mark grabbed hold of her hand, and thanked God he hadn’t been too proud to reach out.
‘You’ve made an awful mess of your uniform.’ Jody nodded at his dog-food-spattered trousers.
Glancing down, Mark laughed. ‘You know, in the great scheme of things, I don’t think I give a damn.’

Somebody to Love ~ breaking hearts.

Loveahappyending.com Reviewer reduced to tears! *sniffle *

Here’s why:

** spoiler alert ** I wish there were more than 5 stars for this review because it is such a fantastic book! It has it all!!!

Donna is a single mum, getting on with life albeit not very confidently. The three greatest loves of her life are her son Matt, her rabbit Findus and her three legged dog Sade. Donna has had her heart broken, her confidence shattered and every ounce of self-worth drained from her body. Does Donna really need a man in her life? Cue the dashing policeman Mark, also having been hurt in the past, Mark falls head over heels for Donna. But, he has a lot riding on any sort of relationship he might enter into. He has a special needs son. But should he tell Donna? Would this frighten her off?

This fabulous book is a Rom Com with a difference. It’s funny, its heart-breaking, and it will either make you sigh with contentment or scream with frustration. At times it made me weep. The special needs thread running through this book will tug at your heartstrings and give you a greater understanding of what it’s like trying to find love when your life is full of complications.

Through this book, Sheryl Browne has captured the essence of love, life, family and the fear of giving away your heart. She has also perfectly captured the highs and lows of parenting a special needs child. But, this is a story focusing on the highs of life too and there are plenty of laughs throughout the book too and I did get caught out unawares sometimes by the comedic element of the book and found myself chuckling away, much to the amusement of those around me.

If you are a fan of Jill Mansell you will love this book. The characters jump of the page at you and make you instantly care about them – whether you want to or not! They are interesting, funny and are as vital to the book as the main characters. Each one offers something valuable to the story and you just can’t stop yourself liking them. There’s a villain and heartbreaker there too and by the end of the book I was baying for his blood!

Sheryl Browne is without doubt a very talented writer and I could imagine her being offered a movie deal for this book at some point in the future. It’s just crying out to be made into a good rom-com movie. Yes, it’s that good! One of the best books I’ve read this year. I’ll certainly be reading more of her work.

Thank you Jontybabe  *Sniffle, sniffle*
