My First NY Release! HER PERFECT MATE (X-OPS Book One)!

My first NY book releases this Tuesday and I'm so excited I can barely sit still!  It's a military/paranormal/romantic-suspense/thriller called HER PERFECT MATE and it's the first book in my X-OPS Series!

The series revolves around the Department of Covert Operations, a secret organization within the Department of Homeland Security. They get impossible missions done by pairing the very best soldiers, law enforcement officers, and spies together with shifters—humans that possess special animal attributes in their DNA.

The heroine is a feline shifter named Ivy Halliwell. At the start of the book, the DCO is pairing her up with yet another military guy. To say she isn't thrilled is putting it mildly. But she has a good reason for that. Her previous partners hated her because she was different, and she thinks this new partner will feel the same. But Captain Landon Donovan is Special Forces, so he's used to taking impossible situations in stride. He's also hot, hunky, and smells delicious.

HER PERFECT MATE is a paranormal shifter story that blends romance, action, suspense, and military elements into one exciting package that will keep you up all night reading—I promise!

Blurb:

He's a High-Octane Special Ops Pro

When Special Forces Captain Landon Donovan is chosen for an assignment with the Department of Covert Operations, he's stunned to find his new partner is a beautiful woman who looks like she couldn't hurt a fly, never mind take down a terrorist.

She's No Kitten

Ivy Halliwell isn't your average covert op. She's a feline shifter, and more dangerous than she looks. Her feline DNA means she can literally bring out the claws when things get dicey. She's worked with a string of hotheaded military guys who've underestimated her special skills in the past. But when she's partnered with special agent Donovan, a man sexy enough to make any girl purr, things begin to heat up. He doesn't think she's a freak-and he's smokin' hot. Soon they're facing a threat even greater than anyone imagines...and an animal magnetism impossible to ignore.

Excerpt:

Landon expected Todd and Kendra to take him to another conference room, so he was surprised when they led him into what looked like a workout room. Mats covered the floor and a heavy bag hung from a hook in one corner. Weights and workout equipment filled a good portion of the room. A woman was seated cross-legged in the center of it, her eyes closed, her hands loosely resting on her knees. At their entrance, she gracefully uncurled herself from the floor and got to her feet.

She was wearing a pair of black workout pants like his ex-girlfriend used to wear when she went to yoga class, and a form-fitting tank top. He couldn’t help but notice her curvy, athletic body, expressive dark eyes, and full lips. With little makeup and her long, dark hair pulled up in a ponytail, she looked like the girl next door. Only more exotic than any girl he’d ever lived next door to, that was for sure.

He didn’t care how tired and irritated he was, this was a woman he definitely wouldn’t mind stopping to appreciate. Hopefully, one of his new training officers would introduce them before she left to give them the room.

“Landon, meet Ivy Halliwell, your new partner,” Kendra said. “Ivy, Landon Donovan, Captain, Special Forces.”

They were going to have to pick his jaw up off the floor because Landon was damn sure that’s where it was after hearing that announcement. No way this walking wet dream was his partner. She looked like she couldn’t hurt a fly, much less do any kind of covert ops. They had to be messing with him.

Excerpt from One Tear by Lila Munro and GIVEAWAY

A sarcastic cackle flew out of her as she leaned forward and placed her forehead on the edge of the now overturned trunk. “How long did you know about it?”

“Since before he left the last time.”

“Get out!” Madi rose and pointed toward the door, but the man she had called friend and counselor for months didn’t budge. “I said, get out. How dare you call yourself my friend.” Her voice caught and she fought to contain the sob threatening to burst forth.

Jared stood slowly, his jaw slack and hurt hanging in his gaze. He took Liz by the elbow and steered her toward the door. And just before the screen shut behind them Gretchen flew out, apparently quite rattled at Madi’s new personality.

It was then Madi retreated to the spare room. She sat down on the smooth oak boards in front of another official looking government issued box and removed the things inside placing them all around her. A picture of Gage in his dress uniform that had been set on his casket, the carefully folded flag she’d been given, and his beret with the 101st emblem prominently gracing the brim. Then she found a small box containing his dog tags and his wedding band. It was a miracle those things had survived the blast. These things were the remnants of the man she’d believed loved her, the pieces of a life that had never existed.

How could she have been so stupid not to have seen?

Blinded by tears she refused to allow to fall, Madi opened the tiny box then closed it and clutching it to her chest stood. She made her way back to the living room and wondered just how the hell she reconciled the contents of the smaller box with the contents of the much larger one.

Madi sank back to the floor and recalled the first memorial she’d ever had to attend for one of Gage’s fellow soldiers. A seasoned and crusty old Sergeant Major who’d seen fit to pull her and Gage under his wing had come by the evening before the service and had a little chat with her about her expected appearance and behavior.

“You never let them see you cry,” he’d said. “One tear. That’s all you allow to escape in public. Then you suck it up and move on.”

And she’d listened. With a brave face on, as Madi sat among hundreds watching the young man’s wife clutch a folded flag to her chest, the bright blue interrupted by blinding white stars a stark contrast to the black she wore, Madi had let one tear trickle from behind the dark glasses she wore. Then she’d tucked her emotions away and ignored them.

Some seven years later she found herself in the position of widow hanging on to that damn flag like it was a piece of Gage rather than a few yards of sacred fabric. And the Sergeant Major’s words came to haunt her when a flood welled up behind lids squeezed shut against the repercussion of seven guns firing in sync with respect and honor.

One tear.

That was all Madi allowed herself that day.

One tear her ass.

Who was anyone to dictate to her how many tears she should shed? Who was anyone to tell her not to cry over a life lost because it wasn’t proper protocol? Her husband wasn’t the only one to lose his life. Madi had lost a life as well. And she knew now why her counselor had urged her to stop suppressing her feelings and hiding in the dark to cry, had urged her to allow herself to go through the process of grieving.

Because Madi needed to grieve. Needed to get past denial. She needed to let go, get pissed, throw things. She needed to hate. And damn it. Madi needed to cry. She needed to sob and wail and scream so she could finally get through grieving and asking why and finally just accept.

Accept that yes, Gage was gone. He was never coming back. And it was okay to admit that while she was sad the reason he would never come back was because he was beneath six feet of cold, dark earth in Arlington, she was glad he was no longer in her life.

Madi didn’t love him, hadn’t in she couldn’t remember when. For that loss she also needed to grieve.

And Madi’s grief deserved more than one tear.

Meet Madi from One Tear and Enter Our GIVEAWAY

Today I’d like to introduce you to Madison Melbourne from One Tear. Thanks for agreeing to join in the festivities today, Madi!

So let’s get started, because I know the readers here really want to know…

Everything about you! Tell us, where did you grow up? Is that the only place you’ve ever lived or have you moved around?

Hi, Denisea! Gee, I’ve not seen you since you typed The End. Hope you’ve been doing well. J Hey, readers! So happy to be here. Let’s see…I grew up just outside of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, home to a fairly large military training facility. That’s where I met and married my first husband. I didn’t move around as much as some of my friends did, but his job did take us to Kentucky. But, circumstances dictated I would end up back in Missouri trying to rebuild my life.

What’s your current occupation?

I’m a private music instructor. I teach piano and strings. At some point though, I’d like to add horse breeder to my resume.

What’s in your refrigerator right now?

A pitcher of sweet tea, breakfast sausage from a local butcher, deli ham, cheddar cheese, leftover spaghetti, pickles, Ott’s salad dressing, a partial tube of tomato paste, milk, a half a bottle of St. James wine (Country Red), mustard, eggs, salad fixings, two containers of yogurt (one blueberry and one vanilla), cranberry juice, and a carton of Chinese take-out.

What smell do you associate with your childhood? Is it a happy smell?

The smell of homemade biscuits baking and homemade sausage frying. It is totally happy. It’s what my grandma CeCe used to make me for breakfast whenever I stayed with her.

Do you have any tattoos? What are they? If you don’t, would you consider getting one and what would it be?

I do! I have black musical notes on my shoulder.

What is your most treasured possession?

It would have been my grandmother’s piano had it not been hauled away before I could lay claim on it. But that’s material, and I’ve learned material things aren’t all they’re cracked up to be. So, I’d have to say my most treasured possessions are my relationships with my family, Rafe, and my friends.

Do you have any regrets? What are they?

Plenty, but dwelling on them doesn’t fix a thing. Besides, for every regret I have, a lesson was learned.

Do you prefer jeans or sweats? Flip-flops or sneakers?

Jeans and my ropers. And when I’m not wearing my ropers I prefer to go barefoot.

What is your greatest achievement?

Learning that I’m worthy of love.

Is there anything you’d like to tell your writer?

Thank you for telling my story and finding my soul mate. J

Meet Rafe McCarthy from One Tear and Enter Our GIVEAWAY

I’d like to introduce you to Rafe McCarthy from One Tear. Thanks, Rafe, for agreeing to answer my questions and join the party today!

You’re most welcome, Denisea. How could I turn down the request of a military wife? Do your worst, woman. I’m ready!

Well, when you put it that way, let’s get started, because our readers really want to know…

Everything about you! Tell us, where did you grow up? Is that the only place you’ve ever lived or have you moved around?

I grew up in Big Sandy, Montana, but have lived all over the place since graduating high school and making my way into the world. I’ve lived in North Carolina, California, Japan, and Missouri.

What’s your current occupation?

I’m a United States Marine.

What’s in your refrigerator right now?

Not a hell of a lot. Two bottles of beer, a slice of pizza, a few cans of Coke, a jar of spicy mustard, deli turkey and Swiss cheese, a box of Little Debbies, bacon and eggs, and some fruit cocktail—extra cherries variety. You know now why I like to eat at Madi’s house.

What smell do you associate with your childhood? Is it a happy smell?

Fresh cut hay and saddle leather. It’s a very happy smell. Reminds me of simpler times and fewer worries.

What’s a typical Saturday morning like for you?

A Marine’s inner clock doesn’t discern between week days and weekends, so I’m typically up with the sun with a cup of coffee in my hand wandering out to the barn to feed horses. Then I’ll do up my laundry which consists of PT gear and a couple sets of dirty cammies followed by whatever sports game I can find and a nap. After that, before I met Madi, I’d be heading out at dusk for the club. Now I spend my Saturday evenings with her watching scary movies and eating Chinese take-out.

Do you have any tattoos? What are they? If you don’t, would you consider getting one and what would it be?

What Marine doesn’t have tattoos? I’ve got the USMC emblem on my left shoulder and a rosary on my right. At some point I’d like to get Madi’s name etched on me somewhere, but she’s reluctant—something about bad luck. Women!

What is your most treasured possession?

Madi’s love.

Do you have any regrets? What are they?

I used to regret bachelorhood, but I realize now if I’d not prolonged settling down for so long, I’d never have met Madi. Now what I did during that time, several regrets, but can’t change it so I might as well get comfortable with living with it.

Do you prefer jeans or sweats? Flip-flops or sneakers?

I wear combat boots for a living and wouldn’t be caught dead in flip-flops. And sneakers are for running.

What is your greatest achievement?

Learning to give as much as I take.

Is there anything you’d like to tell your writer?

Lady, if you can’t make people feel! I’d love to hate you for it, but I just can’t.

One Tear by Denisea Kampe On Sale NOW for $0.99

Sometimes mourning the loss of one life while rejoicing the discovery of another requires more than one tear…

Living just outside an Army base in the Midwest meant Madison Melbourne grew up around soldiers by the thousands. While they were a constant in her life, she never envisioned herself filling the role of Army wife. Until Gage came along. Over the course of a few months, Madi knew two things. She might be head over heels and she was definitely pregnant. Against the advice of friends and family, she jumps over the state line and into a marriage that would later be defined by the secrets it held rather than the truths she thought it was based on. Upon his death in combat, Gage leaves Madi with more questions than answers and more debt than money forcing her from her Kentucky home and right back where she started. She may be at square one, but Madi’s determined to move forward and never to be left destitute and heartbroken again.

Seeing how difficult the Marine Corps is on marriages and families, Rafe McCarthy has sentenced himself to a life of hard time as a bachelor, living for the moment and never staying with any woman long enough for the grass to grow beneath his feet. In fact, Rafe has a reputation as the unit player that follows him everywhere he goes with a vengeance. But it seems biological time clocks aren’t just a female thing. In fact, Rafe’s biological alarm goes off one afternoon and like a man possessed, he falls into a wife seeking mode akin to the heat seeking missiles he’s watched zipping over the Middle East for the last several years. It’s only a matter of hours before he has Madi in his crosshairs and a matter of days until he realizes he’s sighted in on one tragically broken woman. But instead of listening to every single male instinct he possesses and running, Rafe digs in his heels, determined they can work and hell-bent on making her happy.

And then the tears come…

Excerpt:

She smelled like vanilla and sugar, even after the hell she’d been through that day. Her soft hair brushed up against his bare bicep. Unsettled need prickled down his neck. His throat tightened, and fire ran to his groin.
“Mia…” Distraction and anticipation stole words from his lips.
His heart pounded loud in his chest, fighting for his attention. With each flutter of her eyelashes and innocent movement against his skin, his tension spiked. It was shocking. He was on the job. There was no time for distraction. Losing control was unheard of. Unacceptable.
His arm was cemented around her shoulder, and it wasn’t moving. He stared as the broken white lines on the highway passed in quick revolutions, one right after another. The hum of the truck’s engine poked at his concentration.
He needed to get out of this truck. He needed cool, fresh air to cover him. Right now. Deep, mind-clearing breaths were in order as soon as possible. Anything to get his disciplined mind back to what it did best—analyze, act, accomplish.
Winters made a sharp exit off the highway onto an unlit ramp. He jammed on the brakes. Gravel spit from under the truck. The back end skidded and fishtailed before it came to a stop. His heart thumped. His throat tightened. The faint scent of burned rubber filtered into the pickup cab.
Oh, what the hell. No way was he getting out of this truck.
As fast as he pulled off the road, he brought her close to his face, and without even a second to hover over her, he crushed his lips onto hers. Her tense mouth gasped a breath, then melted. The hot caress of her tongue sent explosions from his chest to the palms of his hands. The pounding in his heart didn’t get any better. It only pushed his racing pulse faster, making it gallop wild, as intoxicating rockets flamed inside him.
Insanity. She was delicious insanity.
In between breathless pants, wicked want fired. Her lips were full. Her kiss was better than he expected, and hell, he expected a whole lot. She stoked him faster than he could ever remember. A kiss unlike any other kiss. There was no denying that.
He knotted a hand in her hair, held her to him, and devoured her. The press of her silken flesh made him hunger for more. His breathing deteriorated into a desperate rasp of torture. With each inhalation, he smelled, tasted, and consumed feminine beauty. This angel was a vixen in disguise, and God help him, he wanted her.
Her small hands wrapped into his T-shirt, then she stroked his stomach, flexing her fingertips against the fabric and straining against him. He dropped his lips to her neck, and she moaned. That perfect purr fanned his desperation. Her goose bumps flashed under his tongue’s caress, and she shuddered with each whipping kiss.
She tasted of sweat and tear gas, of soft woman, and carnal ambition. There wasn’t a timid thing about Mia. Who was he to assume what she wanted? To think she needed soothing and caring? It seemed all she needed was him. Hard. Tough. Possessive.
