Gift Card Give Away Celebrating Release of Always and Forever Love

I'm happy to be joining in the Goddess Fish Release Party and am offering a $20 gift card in a drawing for those who comment.

Bio: Lynn Crandall lives in the Midwest and writes in the company of her two cats. She has been a reader and a writer all her life. Her background is in journalism, but whether writing a magazine or newspaper story or creating a romance, she loves the power stories hold to transport, inspire, and uplift. In her romances, she focuses on vulnerable, embraceable characters who don't back down. She hopes that readers discover, over and over, stories of ordinary people who face ordinary life challenges and are transformed by extraordinary love.

Book Blurb:

The presence of a ghost in her life doesn't alarm Lacy Aegar, in fact it makes her happy. Two and a half years ago when her dead husband Nicholas reappeared in her life as a full-bodied spirit, she questioned her sanity. But with Nicholas' explanation that there are things about life that are not as she's always believed, she settled into a pleasant routine of working with her sister at their private investigation business and enjoying home life with her now 10-year-old son – with Nicholas never very far away.

Lacey's complacency and sense of stability is sent topsy-turvy when she runs into Jackson Carter, the son of powerful and influential business tycoon, William Carter. Typical of the Carter reputation, Jackson's slick new private investigating business is siphoning off clients from the Aegar sisters' business, creating financial difficulty. It's a recurring nightmare for Lacey, who has already seen damage done by the Carter family, and when she encounters Jackson, she wants nothing to do with him.

But things are not what they seem when it comes to Jackson Carter, either. Unbeknownst to Lacey and her sister, Jackson is fighting a battle to preserve his business, too, and his integrity. For him, it's a fight for his soul, and he enlists Lacey's help because of her unique investigative skills and open heart. When she uncovers a mole in his business, she also discovers that one of his clients' drug trials has been given the green light to go to the next phase based on falsified data. As they work together to save both their businesses, Jackson and Lacey not only face death, they must decide whether or not to come to grips with their feelings about love and life.
Excerpt:

Walking into the master bath, Lacey stopped short. “Geez! Now, that’s a bathtub,” she exclaimed. Her voice echoed slightly against the marble tile walls and gray slate floor. Jason waited patiently at the doorway while her gaze moved from one opulent element to another. A large white and gold marble whirlpool tub, deep enough to disappear in, was framed on three sides by frosted glass windows and a small garden of palms and feathery ferns. On another wall stood a shower stall sporting a gold rain-head showerhead and etched glass doors.

“Hi, Uncle Jake.”

Jason’s greeting jolted Lacey out of her skin. Retreat was impossible. She turned to face the square shoulders, tall frame, and solid jaw of a dark-haired man. “Uncle Jake, I presume?” She wasn’t doing anything wrong, so why did she feel her as though Brad Pitt had just caught her picking her nose?

“I know who I am. Who are you and what are you doing in my bathroom?” The man’s voice was clipped velvet. His arm circled Jason protectively.

She stuck out her hand. “I’m Lacey Aegar. And as for what I’m doing here…”

“I hired her, Uncle Jake. She’s going to find Snickers.”

She looked from Jason’s cherubic face and up into the glistening brown eyes of his uncle and felt her composure melt into the cold slate beneath her feet. “Umm…I’m a private investigator. And your nephew has asked me to…”

“I think you’ve seen enough, Ms. Private Investigator or gossip columnist or whoever you are.” The man grabbed Lacey’s elbow and began to usher her briskly out of the room.

“But Uncle Jake—”

“If you’ll just hold on a minute I can explain.” Lacey’s face burned at the man’s insinuation. With Jason at his heels, the man swept Lacey down the stairs and was heading toward the front door, where she spread out her hands and planted them against the hard wood. "Stop,” she demanded, whirling around to face him head-on. “I’m not leaving until I finish what I came here for, and that’s to help Jason find his dog.”

Christmas Wishes and Dreams of French Silk Pie

Is Lee ready to start living again?
by Danica Winters
Christmas is one of my favorite holidays (closely followed by Halloween, but this could be thanks to my love of all things chocolate). I love the icy pine-scented air that reawakens your winter dulled senses the second you step outside. I love the spirit of thankfulness, good tidings, and joy.
But what if we weren't so lucky? What if Christmas only reawakened the wounds of our past?  This is exactly the case for my newest character, Lee Llewellyn.
In Christmas Wishes, Lee has lost her son and is forced to face another holiday season with only her memories for comfort. In Lee, I tried to create a character in which every reader with a child, or who has ever dealt with a divorce, could relate.  Life can be hard when you must go through it alone, but what can help? For Lee, this was her love of French Silk Pie.
Without spoiling anything, I can tell you that sometimes dreams of French Silk Pie can blossom into unexpected Christmas Wishes.
I hope you get the chance to check out my newest short story--I'm sure you will finish this story with your cheeks aching from laughter and your heart filled with the joy of Christmas!!
Wishing you the happiest of reading,
Danica Winters

Gemstones and inspiration for writing my scenes

I first discovered ammolites on a trip to Florida. I was annoyed with my dad for wanting to revisit a shopping area as he searched for a specific piece of jewelry for his girlfriend.

Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate jewelry. I’ll never forget my favorite childhood shirt, blue and sparkly, that read Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend.  But I keep it simple when it comes to my accessories, and that includes my jewelry.

Needless to say, I groaned and groused at this shopping venture. I wanted to be on the beach sipping a mojito and even though I was an adult, we had all come together on this trip for a family member’s wedding, and we only had one vehicle. As hard as it was, we were trying to spend time and be together on this trip, even if it did include me missing out on the Florida beach and a mojito I felt I desperately needed.

As soon as my dad found what he was looking for and showed me, I fell in love. My life changed. Everything changed, and I knew I needed to know more about these gemstones. I didn’t care about the beach anymore (except to start looking for seashells) and sipping a mojito was the last thing on my mind.

Ammolites are gemstones that originate from the fossilized seashells of ammonites. Ammonites are extinct mollusks, some dating back even to the Devonian period (which is, wow, a really long time ago!) Certain dinosaurs might have even eaten them as a tasty snack. And some were able to grow 3 feet!

I had already been writing my story, Burn on the Western Slope, and I knew it would include a jewelry heist. But in my dad’s search for ammolites, I discovered the history and decided I needed to include these precious gems and the seashells they come from in my story. This discovery enriched my story and gave it a depth I never would have had if I had been sipping those longed-for mojitos on the beach and avoided that shopping adventure with my dad.

The villain in Burn on the Western Slope operates a nationwide jewel theft ring, but is a collector of rare objects, including ammolites stolen from museums. When one of his collections goes missing, he’ll destroy anyone in his path to get it back. Reagan McKinney, a suspect under investigation for her involvement in this crime syndicate, just happens to be in his path. And why not throw in a sexy undercover agent who works for the FBI’s Jewel and Gem Theft Program?

I consider every day an adventure, and every day can offer me perfect fodder for the next scene in my work-in-progress.  Sometimes it’s just watching the news or keeping up-to-date with current events.  And sometimes it’s a trip to a place I really didn’t want to go to.  I love those life lessons!

CONNECT WITH ME for a chance to win an Amazon gift card.  Burn on the Western Slope will be released July 15.  And please join me on July 31 for my blog tour with Goddess Fish!

Excerpt from California Wine

Oh, my.

Elizabeth’s eyes locked with a pair of the most intense blue eyes she’d ever seen. They belonged to a man with thick black hair to his shoulders, a strong aquiline nose, and high cheekbones. His smile was warm; his straight white teeth a sharp contrast to his light olive skin.

Why did Italy produce such heart-breakingly handsome men?

She looked down at the restaurant table and then looked up again. He was still staring, the smile even broader.

Maybe her daughter Sarah was right. Elizabeth should dine out more often, especially if the scenery was going to be like this.

The waitress brought her a salad and Elizabeth looked at it morosely. Was it possible to eat salad and not get some stuck in her teeth when a gorgeous man was staring at her?

Or worse, drop a huge leaf of oily lettuce on her blouse, calling his attention to her less than abundant breasts?

But the salad looked so good...tiny red cherry tomatoes interspersed with baby carrots and radishes on a bed of mixed greens. She sighed and stabbed the nearest tomato with her fork.

The red orb escaped her plate and went bouncing off the table to land on the floor, rolled to the center of an open space, and sat there for only a minute before being squished by a waitress’ black shoe.

“Such a tragic end for a little tomato.” A rich masculine voice spoke near her ear.

She looked up into the blue eyes of the man standing next to her.

“Perhaps if you had not stabbed at it so viciously, it might have survived,” he continued.

She had to grin at his mock seriousness.

“May I join you?” he asked his hand on the chair.

She considered him. She’d intended to eat her supper alone, go upstairs to her room, run a hot bath, and relax with a good book.

He waited for her answer.

Suddenly, her plan seemed a lonely way to spend one of her last days in Italy. “Sure.”

He sat down next to her and a frisson of heat zapped her body. For the first time since her mother had died, life stirred in her heart. She put down her fork.

“My name is Marcos,” he said, holding out his hand.

“Elizabeth.” She shook. His palm was smooth and cool, and the long fingers fit the rest of his lean body. His touch electrified her skin.

Excerpt from California Sunset

California Homecoming is the third in the California Romance Series. Here’s an excerpt from the first book, California Sunset.

Annie strode into her boss‘s office to answer his summons. Maybe I’m finally going to
get a bonus this year! It would be great to be able to sock that money away in David‘s
college fund.

She grabbed the printouts off Randy‘s chair and dropped them to the floor with a thud. "It‘s going great, Randy," she said. "The next piece of the project is nailed down and we‘re still on track."

"Close the door, please," he said.

"I‘m counting on this project to showcase what I can do for the company." Annie shut the door and plopped down in the chair, her pen poised over her pad as she leaned forward. How should she react? Surprised? Matter of fact?

Randy cleared his throat, his Adam‘s apple bobbing in his scrawny neck. "I‘m afraid the project has been terminated."

"What?"
"JCN needs to cut costs," he started. "Ten thousand people are being laid off from the company."

"There‘s got to be another project somewhere."

Randy pawed through the papers on his desk. "There is another project you can apply for. You‘d be great for one in New Jersey and they could use your skills. It‘s complex and government-mandated—one of those impossible situations you‘re good at handling."

"I can‘t move to New Jersey." She‘d been to New Jersey once—boardwalks, billboards, and Bruce Springsteen. Not a place she could ever imagine living. And she couldn‘t drag her son away from his friends. He was only fifteen.

"C‘mon, Annie. Give it a chance. I‘d hate for the company to lose you."

She shook her head. New Jersey may have been fine for Frank Sinatra, but it wasn’t fine for her. It had taken so long after her divorce to feel secure again. She had her friends, her home, her cats.

"There‘s nothing in the company in this area for someone with your skills. I looked. If you aren‘t willing to apply for the job, then I have no choice. I have to lay you off. Even if you do apply, there‘s no guarantee that you‘ll get the job in New Jersey. You may be laid off anyway."

Her stomach dropped and the bitter smell of Randy‘s coffee became nauseating. She stared out the window, not really seeing the rain-greened California hills, unable to believe what she was hearing. What was she going to do? Randy‘s voice streamed around her, and her mind snagged phrases like "severance package," "layoff procedure," and "resume class." She gripped the arms of the chair as if she was trying to steady a rocking boat.

An ache began in the back of her neck. She needed this job. No one else was going to support David or provide medical benefits. She was going to have to do something to keep a salary coming in. And with the economy the way it was, chances of finding a new job soon would be slim, especially for a thirty-five-year-old woman. Unemployment wouldn‘t cover her mortgage, much less her other expenses.

Excerpt #2 from California Homecoming

After a discouraging day of job hunting, Hunter started his Thursday morning by pounding down the compacted beach sand of Rio del Mar. As he ran, he scanned the ocean cliffs for trouble. He ignored people’s curious stares at his prosthesis, but kept an eye out for any sudden moves.

Today’s run wasn’t the same as dashing down the beach as a kid, but he was thankful technology had gotten to a point where he could be almost good as new on the outside.

Whenever he stopped by the Veteran’s Hall, the old, bearded Vietnam vets in wheelchairs saddened him. How might their lives have been different if they could have walked?

Was his life going to turn to be out any different from theirs in spite of his physical ability?

He increased his pace, wet sand flying behind him.

The salt-laden air filled his lungs, cleansing them further from the stale smells of hospitals and rehab facilities.

He watched a seagull lift in flight, soaring against the wind in takeoff. Hunter longed to have that ultimate freedom, but running was as close as he was going to get.

It would have to do.

A few surfers off in the distance caught his eye. Unfortunately, he’d never be able to do that again. He’d been learning to surf in junior high school. Only in Santa Cruz could you get gym credits for surfing.

At least he was in laid-back Santa Cruz. He’d dreamed of the beach town ever since his father had yanked the family out of the city when Hunter was fourteen. He’d never forgiven his father for the change.

A sudden movement made him shy. Hunter’s adrenalin surged and he automatically reached for a weapon, before his therapy kicked in. He forced himself to examine his surroundings. Tiny clusters of snowy plovers played tag with the waves, a pelican dove beak-first into the waves, and a pair of dolphins crested the waves.

His breathing slowed and he eased his pace. His muscles ached and he tired more easily than he had before the injury. The doctors had told him his physical abilities would improve over time.

That’s how he tried to think of it— a simple injury. Just an accident that had cost more than he’d ever wanted to give.

Right.

Sweating, he reached the parking lot. Even in mid-January, the California coast could generate some heat. Today was the second in a string of perfect days the weatherman promised.

Perfect except that Hunter had to figure out how to live. His mother wanted him to come home so she could baby him. The VA wanted him to go to job training.

All Hunter wanted to do was get back to construction work. But construction work was hard enough to find if you had all your limbs. Hiring bosses took one look at him and shook their heads.

So much for supporting veterans.

Excerpt #1 from California Homecoming

Sarah Ladina turned the key and pushed open the oak door, her pulse quickening in anticipation. Stale smells of forgotten perfumes and long ago dinners wafted from the entrance hall. She crossed the threshold, shut the door behind her, and leaned against it.

Mine. This soon-to-be-inn is all mine.

She rubbed her hand on her stomach. Ours.

Cobwebs huddled in the high corners of the paneled entry and a screw sticking from the staircase newel told of a missing cap. Layers of dust added texture to the floor.

The work was also going to be all hers.

Her shoulders sank. What had she been thinking?

“If you want a job done right, do it yourself.” Other people aren’t dependable.

A bark from outside made her drop her bag of cleaning supplies, snacks, and tools on the floor. Cautiously, she opened the door.

A golden retriever sat on the porch, staring up at her, dark eyes pleading entry. The dog barked again, stood, nosed the door open, and walked in. He...or she...made a beeline for the front sitting room, circled, and laid down.

Great. A dog who thinks it owns the place.

Keeping a wide berth, she walked toward the dog. “Shoo,” she said. “Go home.”

The dog looked up at her, rolled over, and beat its tail against the floor.

Definitely a girl dog.

“Go! Get out of here!” Sarah raised her voice. She did not need anything else to take care of.

The dog whined and thumped her tail harder.

Tires crunched the driveway gravel.

Sarah groaned, stomped to the door, and opened it wide.

The dog got off the floor, followed her, and sat down crowded close to her leg.

The heat of the retriever’s strong body against Sarah’s leg gave her courage, ready to face whoever was coming to call. Maybe I do need a dog. A single woman—correction: a single pregnant woman—might be at risk living alone.

She glared at the newcomer’s car, a black Jeep polished to a gleaming shine.

A tall man with broad shoulders emerged from the Jeep. His dark hair was clipped short and he stood with the rigid carriage of a soldier, an odd contrast to the banana slug T-shirt and shorts he wore. His right leg
ended in a prosthetic below the knee.

How sad.

“Hello,” he said, his deep voice easily carrying across the distance between them.

“Nice dog,” he added and walked toward her.

A rumble from the dog’s throat made her put her hand on its head. The soldier wasn’t a threat.

Yet.

The man reached out his hand. Automatically, she took it. “I’m Hunter Evans.”

Her cold hand was engulfed by his strong warmth.

“I’m Sarah.” She withdrew her hand. “What can I do for you?”

“I understand you just bought this place.”

She nodded. “Today.”

“Will you sell it to me?”

She almost laughed out loud. Is he serious? “No.” She stepped back to close the door.

The dog stood.

Hunter didn’t move. “I’d really like to buy it.”

“It’s not for sale any more. I bought it.”

His green eyes glittered with determination. “I know, but you haven’t had time to get attached to it yet. I’ll give you ten percent more than you paid.”

Now she was getting irritated. Why couldn’t he accept “no” to meant “no” and move on? Typical male.

“Why do you want it so badly?”

His lips went to a thin line. “My family used to own this house. I spent some of my best years here. After spending some time in the war...” He gestured to his leg. “I was hoping to return to happier times.”

Her irritation fled. “I’m sorry, I really am, but no.” She wouldn’t give up her baby’s future for anyone, even a vet. “I wish you well, but this house is not for sale. I’m going to make it into an inn.”

“Interesting.” He took a piece of paper from his pocket and scribbled on it. “In case you change your mind.” He handed her the paper.

He gave her a mock salute, climbed into the Jeep, and drove off.

Contemporary Romance: California Homecoming Arrives 6/24!

Pregnant and alone, Sarah Ladina wants to regain her independence and do what’s best for her soon-to-be-born baby, but buying a run-down Victorian for an inn wasn’t her brightest idea. An inability to cook or fix a leaky faucet will make the job even harder. When a friendly golden retriever, disabled vet, and potential cook show up on the first day, she knows her life is going to get a lot more complicated.

After returning from duty in the Middle East wounded in both body and spirit, Hunter Evans is in search of employment and a home. Finding a job has been tough and housing doesn’t come cheap in Costanoa, the town that he loves most on the California Coast. His prosthetic leg allows him to run, but keeps him from his childhood passion, surfing.

Ghosts from their pasts haunt them. Sarah’s Victorian is Hunter’s childhood home. A dusty box of letters hidden in a closet hint of a long-ago affair. When her ex tries to get back into her life and her doctor orders modified bed rest, Sarah wonders if she’ll ever be able to stand on her own. With a low-level job and a transient motel for a home, Hunter isn’t sure life is worth living.

Spring is coming in Costanoa and love is in the air. With the help of good friends, Sarah and Hunter may be able to get beyond the painful past and complicated present to find the love and respect they want and deserve.
                                                          * * *
Two issues confronting the United States right now sparked the idea for California Homecoming. With the great numbers of wounded veterans coming home, looking for work, and not always able to get the treatment they deserve, I knew I wanted the hero of the book to be a disabled veteran trying to regain his footing. As I wrote about Hunter, I knew he had to stand for everything that was right about the brave young men and women of our military.

The second issue is more controversial — the great debate about children — born and unborn. I’ve known women in Sarah’s situation, women who have become accidently pregnant and who must make adjustments in their lives. I’ve been a single mother with a full-time job in Corporate America. Fortunately, the company and the boss I worked for gave me a great deal of flexibility and for that I’m grateful. With Sarah, I tried to build a character that had to face the decisions and challenges of an unanticipated pregnancy.

Excerpt to the 5-star Romantic Suspense, Black Creek Burning

Click here to visit the R.T. Wolfe website

As she meandered up the path to their house, she felt queasy, like she’d done this before. Nervously, she glanced over her shoulder through her mass of wavy brown hair as she kept moving toward the front door. Two people were walking along the street. She stopped and wondered what reason anyone would have to take a walk at this time of night in such an early bird neighborhood.
It was then she heard the shrill of the smoke detectors. Chest tightening, she bolted for the door.
“Mom! Dad!” she screamed and tumbled inside, spotting them almost immediately as they ran down the long upstairs hallway.
Not again. Please not again, she begged, as she fought her frozen legs to make them move up the stairs. The smoke detectors shrieked in her ears. Or was that the shrieking coming from her lungs?
Her parents yelled her name as they reached for the bedroom door. She couldn’t stop gasping for air long enough to tell them to stop. She wasn’t in there. Didn’t they know? They needed to get out of the house. Couldn’t they smell the smoke?
Just like each time, her viewpoint from the middle of the stairs showed her the yellowish air sucking under the door to her bedroom. Although trying to use the railing to give her momentum, every part of her felt like it was in molasses. She cocked her head to the side, drawing her eyebrows together. Her gaze locked on the eerie breeze.
Almost simultaneously, her mother rotated the knob as her eyes turned and met hers. For that fraction of a second, her mother understood the fear on Brie’s face, but it was too late. It was always too late. As she opened the door, Brie had just enough time to witness her parents engulfed in flames before the explosion blew her back and everything went dark.

“Brie, wake up. Wake up, Brie. You’re dreaming.”

2010 EPIC Award Winning Author Review of the Romantic Suspense, Black Creek Burning

Larsen review of RT Wolfe’s Black Creek Burning
I thoroughly enjoyed RT Wolfe’s masterful debut novel, Black Creek Burning.  Written with confident expertise on a variety of topics such as landscaping and home remodeling, I got wrapped up in the engaging storytelling of this wonderful tale of love, danger and suspense.  Along the way I completely fell in love with hero Nathan as he patiently transformed the heroine Brie from an icy self-proclaimed independent into a woman willing to accept the love of a strong man and a family in need of a mother.  The details were delicious, the settings were masterfully painted, the mystery was a stumper and the romance was beautifully satisfying.
A top-rate romantic suspense from a talented promising new author.  I hear rumors that this is the first book of a series, and I gleefully await the sequel!

Brianna Chapman has learned to handle just about anything. Witnessing the murder of her parents had that effect. Knowing the unsolved arson had been meant for her is the one thing she can’t handle. Instead of dwelling, she stuffs her guilt soundly into her subconscious through diving into the teaching job she loves by day and the dirt of the landscaping business she owns by night. Her habit of remaining aloof to personal relationships is, well, working.
Will her guilt be as easy to keep buried if the killer comes back to finish the job?
In the midst of juggling a scorched yard, dead animals on her doorstep and her vandalized car, the one thing she didn’t count on was the staggering Nathan Reed. A nationally renowned woodworking artist, Nathan and his two priceless nephews move into the run-down historical house behind her and over Black Creek. They have a canny way of maneuvering around her aloof demeanor and into her heart. Will they still want to be part of her life when they discover she is haunted by past memories and hunted by present dangers?

What Type of Hero Are You Attracted To?

Click here to visit the R.T. Wolfe Facebook Author Page

Do you go for the distant bad guy? The romantic funny man?
The movie Avengers seemed to hit them all. The heroes in the story were all completely different. Thor was the loyal muscle head. The Hulk was the tortured, broody soul. Of course, Captain America played the part of the clean cut guy-next-door. Hawkeye played the quiet hero who didn’t need to be the center of attention, and of course, there was bad guy Ironman.
Nathan Reed is the hero of Black Creek Burning.  He falls into the Hawkeye category. On the outside, he seems like a smooth, casual uncle working to rebuild the run down historic farmhouse he moved into with the two young nephews he’s raising as his own. He has just enough dark, lanky good looks to make his aloof new neighbor look twice.
Brie Chapman was the only witness to the murder of her parents. She spent six long years recovering from the fact that the arson that killed them was actually meant for her. She’s too busy working her teaching job by day and her landscaping business by night to bother with Nathan…or the dead animals that keep popping up on her deck and porch.
Nathan may seem like the careless meandering type, but he has a canny way of maneuvering around Brie’s thick exterior and into her heart. He’s smart, talented and determined to both find who’s been shooting out the windows in Brie’s classroom as well as win the girl.  He has the patience and perseverance to do just that.
Which type of hero do you go for?
