Sudden Breakaway by Jessica E. Subject - Adult excerpt

Jared shucked his towel and stroked his rigid cock. That woman made him hard every time she came to the door, trying to persuade him to sign up for the Space Service. Her claims had seemed far-fetched when she’d first approached him, yet his commander had confirmed her credentials, having been approached to join by another many years ago. While Jared would never add his thumbprint to the contract he’d read, he wouldn’t mind if she stopped by to try and convince him again.

Ms. Brown, with her black blazer revealing a hint of cleavage and a skirt that showed the perfect curvature of her ass. When he’d answered the door fresh out of the shower and seen her on his porch, he’d gripped the door handle to hold himself back from yanking her inside and tearing off her fine-pressed suit.

He squeezed his balls; no time to jack-off. Dylan and Madison would arrive in an hour, and he had to take one last run through his house to get rid of any lingering dust bunnies before Children’s Services appeared. No obvious dirt in the living room, he headed toward the kitchen, but his mind kept flying back to Ms. Brown.

She had the whole librarian thing going on, with her dark hair tied up in a bun and glasses resting on the end of her nose. Though, none of the women who worked at the local branch made his cock throb. Perhaps there was some truth to the naughty librarian tale. He wished.

Most women’s version of naughty did not come close to his. While the whole BDSM club scene didn’t appeal to him, he enjoyed a little bondage during foreplay. He’d spent months at a time deployed in the Middle East. While home, he appreciated the opportunity to date the pretty women who found a guy in uniform sexy. But once he fetched the cuffs, they bolted. They hadn’t even wanted to use them on him.

Ms. Brown was no girl, though. No more than a couple years his senior, she exuded experience with her seductive glances, her posture that plunged her cleavage into his line of sight, and that damn wiggle of her ass as she sashayed back to her car. She could teach him a thing or two. He yearned for the chance to find out.

No, his next lay could no longer be at the forefront of his mind. In less than an hour, he would become the father-figure to two impressionable young children. His sexual urges would have to take leave for the foreseeable future.

He’d been in his last month of deployment to Afghanistan when the call came in. And it took another day for his commander to reach him with the news. His brother-in-law had been killed in a car accident, leaving his niece and nephew orphans. And as much as he loved the Marine Corps—Semper Fi—he couldn’t let the kids be raised by strangers. They had no other family left.

So, after he returned to the States, he contacted his lawyer and spent a couple of weeks obtaining guardianship of the children. He’d received his discharge papers, found a civilian position working as a desk jockey for the CIA through his contacts with the Marines, and bought a house suitable to raise two growing youngsters. After months of preparation, they were coming to live with him.

He glanced at his watch. Ten minutes until they arrived.

Shit! He’d wasted precious time thinking about Ms. Brown and his new life. Grabbing a pair of jeans and a T-shirt, he yanked them on. Screw the boxers; his niece and nephew wouldn’t notice. He peeked into their rooms to ensure they looked somewhat presentable. Would Children’s Services take them back to California if his new living space didn’t meet their standards?

He groaned. They weren’t even at his house yet, and he’d been distracted. No more. Nothing would come before them. The children would be his priority. Everything he did would be for them, for the rest of his life.

Sudden Breakaway by Jessica E. Subject - PG Excerpt

Ms. Brown. Everyone knew her by that name, or at least those she tried to recruit for the Space Service did. For once, though, she wanted to be someone else, maybe herself. If she could shed the black designer suit and lose the title, she could simply be Paige.

The moment she’d signed the contract with the top-secret organization, she’d left Paige and the life she knew behind. Living in the shadows had been easy with her husband by her side, until agents destroyed the portal to the space station to keep terrorists from getting their hands on alien technology. Her husband—her only link to her old life—remained trapped there until the powers-that-be deemed it safe to repair the link.
She regretted agreeing to his traveling there for training while she remained on Earth, anxious about his welfare and resentful of the separation.

She continued to recruit for the Space Service, her work all she had to distract her from thinking of her faraway husband and empty bed. It wasn’t until the divorce papers had been forwarded to her communicator, from space, that she’d regretted signing the lifetime contract. Her husband hadn’t waited for her, choosing to bed some extraterrestrial bitch light years away.

She scanned her thumb across the ignition of her luxury sedan—only the best for members of the Space Service. None of it mattered anymore. She’d lost her enthusiasm for fostering relationships between Earth and the many worlds in the universe sustaining intelligent life. No, she wanted to stay on her home planet and find the love and happiness she’d thought she once had with her ex-husband.

She smirked, considering the possibility of her dream if she didn’t find any new recruits soon. The Space Service would revoke her contract. Her last three prospects had turned down her offer of an “out of this world” work environment, not once, but repeatedly. Why hadn’t she found the same strength, all those years ago to turn down the man in black who’d visited her and her husband? Though if she didn’t recruit, what would she do for a living?

Foot on the brake, she glanced back at the house of her latest failure then pressed the button to shift into drive.

An honorably discharged former Marine with no ties to keep him grounded, he met every criteria for the ideal recruit. A fine male specimen, too. His dark, alluring eyes, smooth bald head, and well-defined muscles rippling under milk chocolate-colored skin stirred desires dormant inside her since she’d thumb-printed away her marriage.

She hadn’t meant to arrive when he was in the shower, but would never apologize for the view of Mr. Tall-Dark-and-Handsome, wearing a thin white towel around his waist when he’d greeted her at the door. The image would remain forever implanted in her mind, the reference for every fantasy from that day forward. She should have thought to capture a digital image of him before she’d left, her forty-year-old brain known to dispose of information she’d rather remember.

Merging onto the highway, heading home, she sighed. Why could she no longer convince anyone to sign their life away? She’d contracted twenty men and women already. Had she lost her touch?

She hadn’t had to head hunt these people herself, either. Her handler fed her all the important information regarding her prospects, including education, family, and any details she could use for leverage, such as a criminal record. All she had to do was persuade them they wanted the adventure of a lifetime. The thrill of the job had ended for her though. Perhaps the individuals she’d approached in the past few months had sensed her lack of enthusiasm.

Hockey and science fiction in the same story?

Hello everyone! *waves* I'm Jessica Subject, and this is my first party at the Goddess Fish Party Pavilion. I'm super excited to be here.

On Friday, my latest release, Sudden Breakaway, came out. It's a science fiction romance in that one of the characters recruits for the Space Service, but that's about it. The story is part of Decadent Publishing's 1Night Stand series, and takes place at a hockey game. Yes, that's right, a hockey game. Up in a private suite, Paige and Jared meet for their date, and heat it up.

Here's the blurb:

Dressed in her black designer suit, Paige Brown recruits men and women for the Space Service. After the end of her marriage, and several failed recruiting missions, she yearns to find a way out of her lifelong contract to live a normal life. To find love again.

Jared Barnes’s life had been flipped upside down by two little kids. When his former Commander’s wife shows up to give him a reprieve, he jumps at the chance for a break, and to visit his former squad. But it is not his buddies he meets in the private suite at the hockey game, instead a woman who has been the star of all of his recent fantasies.

Now available from Decadent Publishing and other ebook retailers.

Wrapping up the day...

Thanks everyone for taking some time and visiting us here at the party! Especially if you're in the States and watching the game...or commercials like in my case. ;)
Hope you've enjoyed the glimpse into the couple of fantasy posts I've shared today. And for a send off, here's a peek into Sunset Desires...

~ Blurb ~
A blind date. A hot tropical evening. She’ll be someone he can’t forget. He’ll fulfill her ultimate fantasy.
Gwendolyn Tramonto is stunned to learn her cousin set her up with sex on the beach and it’s not the drink. But after a several year dry spell of no relationships, no dates…no sex, Gwen decides to take her cousin up on her offer and go out on the blind date. For once, she’d like to indulge in a fantasy, be wined and dined instead of the other way around, and if she and the man ended up in bed together, that would be a nice bonus.
Evan Cadell is looking forward to the date his uncle arranged for him through an exclusive matchmaking service and taking a one night break from work, life and all its demands. From Gwen’s profile, Evan knows what her fantasy is and believes he’s the man who can make it come true.
But will one night in paradise be enough to satisfy their desires?

~ PG Excerpt ~ (not available anywhere else!)
Gwen. The match up. A distraction for a night. A short break from the drudgery of life. Uncle Lane wanted him to start a relationship. He only wanted a fling. That’s all he’d promised his uncle, who seemed gung ho to have him settle down. Weird idea coming from a man who hadn’t had a happy marriage. Evan’s habits of living alone and immersing himself in work were ingrained. He had thirty-five years of bachelorhood to his credit. If it weren’t for Lane, he’d still be at the office poring over figures. Not much else to do when you lived so far away from friends and family, and on an island.
But Uncle Lane, a recent returnee to the dating pool, had decided all the single males in the family needed to dive in with him. He put Evan at the head of the matchmaking line. Lucky me. Shrugging, he downed the rest of his beer. The least I can do is make the best of it and show her a good time. Glancing down at Gwen’s profile, he focused on the main words of her fantasy—vacation, exotic location, handsome man, sensual rendezvous.
Handsome? Check. At least he’d been told he had above-average features. Exotic location? Check. He had the perfect spot to take her. Erotic tryst? Though friends and family called him charming and women praised his skills, he hoped he could give her what she wanted and make her dreams come true.

Speaking of fantasies and being a writer...

Ah, Las Vegas, a wonderful city. It can be a great place for a writer. So many different opportunities for observation and glimpses into the personas of others.
I’ve seen the sun rise several times over Lake Mead, Lake Las Vegas and the strip at triathlon races and marathons. I've seen some great sunsets, too.

There's people watching down at the strip and downtown while traversing around, frequenting the restaurants, gambling

into the wee hours of the morning. Staying at the hotels provides some great ideas for settings and scenes in stories. <--- Like this great bathroom at Red Rock Hotel and Casino with a deep tub. Or this interesting room found in the Flamingo. ------v
[I've set my next Sunset book Sunset Seduction in a Las Vegas hotel room. ;) ]
There's some great stargazing as well deep into the night at Red Rock. I’ve even gone to school here.

Then, of course, there are my writing cronies and we can be in a whole category of interesting people ourselves.

Las Vegas is a place where dreams can be made one day and broken the next. A place where if you have the money and/or the right connections your every wish can be met, your fantasies fulfilled, and even if you don’t have the big bank roll or connections, you can still pretty much live out your desires. So many chances to become immersed in fantasies...and have fodder for stories.

The family introduced in Sunset Desires is from Las Vegas. The first story ends in the city while the other stories will take place there and around the city. :) And in Sunset Desires the hero helps the heroine fulfill a fantasy!

A Monday afternoon & fantasies coming true…kind of…

In my first post I mentioned how part of the inspiration for Sunset Desires came from laying out at the pool... Here's what that afternoon entailed...
One Monday afternoon in the summer, I went down to my development’s pool to enjoy the 80+ degree temps (a change from the 100+ degree temps we normally have here in Las Vegas), the water (enjoyed the water after I got over the initial shock of how brisk it was), the blue skies, palm trees, smell of sun tan lotion. There was a real nice older couple who came in. They were great to talk to and were having such a fun time that soon the three of us were laughing. After some laps, I took some time to work on outlining a hot scene for a story I was working on (which eventually became Sunset Desires) while jammin’ to Duran Duran and The Killers. And, as I was writing—longhand btw since I didn’t take my laptop—one of my fantasies started playing out.
    Kind of.
Pool side, sunning, writing and along comes the pool boy.
This is where the ‘kind of’ part comes in.
For one, I’m not the hot cougar I imagine myself to be. Give me some time & I plan to get there.
Two, it wasn’t my private pool at my own house.
Three, the guy was covered in clothes and a hat and had sunglasses on so I couldn’t get a good look at him.
    Oh well.
But I’m a writer, I can spin it. ;) Maybe one of these days I'll do a story around this day at the pool.
And another perk of the day…it didn’t take me a frickin’ hour to get the knots out of my long hair once I got home!
Since another part of the inspiration for Sunset Desires came from visiting Grand Cayman, here's a pick from the pub we went to & the basis for where my hero and heroine meet up.

Welcome to the Par-tay!

Today I'm here at the Goddess Fish Party Pavilion to celebrate my first Decadent Publishing 1NS release ~ Sunset Desires,
and I'm excited to be a part of the wonderful group of authors who write for this line. In regard to Sunset Desires, I was inspired to write this particular story by a combination of things -- a cruise I went on, laying out by the pool one summer and listening to some sensual flamenco music. My love of sunsets helped in picking out a title. :)
I'm doing a giveaway this weekend and for deets please visit my blog: C.R. Moss blog.
Stay tuned to the Pavilion today for more from me regarding Sunset Desires and other fun tibits!
