Blurb:
Victoria Storm faces seemingly insurmountable odds to keep her dwindling pack of werewolves alive and together. She fights hunters- including the brother and father of her deceased lover-and the pack takes another devastating loss. When they seek sanctuary in a small town near Lake Tahoe, high in the secluded Sierra Nevada Mountains, Victoria discovers they are infringing on the territory of a vastly more powerful Alpha wolf. To save her pack, she uses her feminine wiles to seduce the Alpha. Nothing comes easily for Victoria. Her plans are complicated by the Alpha's erratic son, a ghostly wife, and a vengeful witch. Not even her status as a Valkyrie or the favor of the Goddess Freya can change the course of destiny for Victoria or her packmates.

Excerpt:
"You killed my brother, bitch."
"Worry about your own life, Sawyer. Daniel is dead."
Victoria held the blade of her dagger even with his jawline, against the strong column of his throat. Cold steel kissed flesh, but she lacked the will to make the final thrust to sever his carotid artery.
"Because of you." His brown eyes blazed with hatred, more intense and consuming than the inferno raging around them.
Every part of the warehouse was on fire, and there was no way to know how much longer the structure would stand. Cinder and smoke swirled everywhere.
Red-hot embers dusted the bare skin of her face and arms faster than her enhanced healing could repair the damage, but she didn't feel the burn. Fury consumed her heart and protected her from the wrath of flames, but the pain of her loss, the weight of her guilt, crippled her.
"Yes, because of me," she said. She blinked back tears. She should kill him. There was no other choice, because the survival of her pack depended upon stopping the hunters who pursued them, the hunters he led. Doubt stilled her hand. The man's life hung in fragile balance between her desire for revenge and uncertainty.
"Do it," Sawyer said with a sneer, as if he sensed her hesitation. She straddled his chest, keeping one of his arms pinned against his side with her knee. His free hand groped for the shotgun on the ground, just out of reach.
"Has your death wish gotten so strong you're committed to joining him?" She sniffed, attempting to scent his fear, but inhaled a lungful of thick smoke that scalded her throat. Tears filled her eyes and a cough racked her chest.
"I'm going to rip you to shreds." Teeth bared, Sawyer's upper body heaved while he attempted to unseat her. The hunter had plenty of fight in him. Her wolf's strength far exceeded that of any human, even a skilled hunter such as a Barrett man.  He gave up obtaining the shotgun and grabbed for her throat with his free hand.
Victoria placed her palm flat on his breastbone and shoved him back.
"Yeah, yeah, I've heard it all before, and yet I'm still here. I'm starting to think you're incompetent, Sawyer."
"Give me a knife. I'll show you incompetent!"
"Now, why would I do something stupid like that?" Despite her taunting tone, doubt twisted her gut into knots. Her hand remained rock steady. The dagger never wavered; the fine edge of the blade bit into his flesh and drew a thin line of blood across the side of his throat.
He's Daniel's brother.
He was also the man who had helped murder her parents and most of her packmates.
The pain of the cut caused Sawyer to grunt; his throat worked while he swallowed, a convulsive clench that betrayed his fear, though his features remained set in a stoic mask.
A hand brushed her wrist, confident and intimate, cool to the touch. Victoria glanced up to stare into a face she knew by heart, every plane and angle committed to memory, although he was far more handsome than her imperfect recollection.
She stiffened.
Impossible! It can't be.
She gazed into the man's familiar face, and the entire world beyond his warm brown eyes ceased to exist: the fire, her pack, the man at the business end of her knife—all of it simply stopped.
She blinked, and her surprise faded. Her mind made the logical leap: it was possible.
He's a ghost.
A strangled snarl emerged from Sawyer's throat, but Victoria did not look at him. The hunter shouldn't have been able to see his brother's ghost. He lacked her gift of spirit sight. She kept a steady grip on the hilt, discouraging him from moving lest he slit his own throat on the blade.
"Daniel?" she whispered. The roar of the inferno engulfed her voice.
A faint smile fluttered across his lips but the expression remained deadly serious. His hand locked tightly about her wrist. Daniel leaned forward. His lips feathered a soft kiss upon the shell of her ear. His honeyed voice murmured as sweet as her memories, causing her excruciating pain, soul deep. She missed him so damned much.
"Not my brother, lover. You can't kill Sawyer."
Victoria's fingers relaxed. The knife fell from her hand. "I won't, for you."
Daniel turned his head and looked his brother in the eye. "There's been enough killing."
Sawyer's features contorted in agony and his hand rose, reaching for his brother. "Danny, I—"
Before Sawyer's hand touched his brother's face, Daniel's body lost substance. Energy crackled in the air, and his form shimmered about the edges. His firm grip grew weaker with each passing second until his hand opened, and he released her wrist.
Her eyes filled with tears. "Please, don't go."
Daniel looked at her; a sad smile touched his lips. "I've got to go, baby."
She closed her eyes, and tears slid down her cheeks. The hot air of the burning warehouse sucked moisture from her skin. Her aching heart pounded, full and heavy, ready to burst. She opened her eyes and forced a brave smile. She extended her arm and brushed his fingertips. "I miss you."
His hand closed on her fingers, and he squeezed. A smiled played on his lips.
"I miss you, too," he said. Then he was gone.

Author Bio:
A friend asked me once how I chose my pen name. I told her the following: "Melissa, because when people mix up my first name, it's the most common goof up. Snark, because it amuses me. A) I love the word 'snarky' and B) I love Lewis Carroll."  As an individual, I'm sarcastic, stubborn and blunt to a fault. I have a strange sense of humor and I like to laugh (usually at my husband or children), but also at myself. I'm not particularly extroverted, although I do enjoy time with my family and close friends a great deal.

At the moment, I'm a stay at home mom who writes in my spare time. I've got a B.S. from Arizona State University in Business, and I've worked a variety of different jobs, including as a medical device documentation specialist, a technical writer, and an auto liability adjuster. I live in the San Francisco East Bay of Northern California with my husband, three kids, and three cats. My hobbies include roleplaying, cooking and reading.

Goodnight from Spain (Hot Excerpt from a Decade of Longing)

It's close to midnight here in Spain and although I love writing at this late hour I must leave you all. This is my last post of the night and since it's so late I've decided to notch up the heat level. It's a very short excerpt in which Alexander has had enough with Angelica's stubborn nature. Impulsive when it comes to her, he acts without thinking. I hope you enjoy it.

“Angelica, please. You are being stubborn.”

Angelica shook her head and turned away from him. She headed towards the door. In two strides, Alexander was after her. He gripped her by the waist and lifted her into his arms. He pushed her against the wall roughly. His mouth found hers, while his hands lifted her skirts.

Angelica gasped. He pushed her roughly, and yet she felt no fear; not like with her husband. She knew Alexander would not hurt her, even if he had done so ten years ago. She entwined her legs around his waist, feeling the hardness of his shaft rub against her. She was wet and her core throbbed. She inhaled sharply at the newfound feelings. Only once she had felt such a thing. Only once, ten years ago, with the same man that held her in his grip now. That had been her perdition.

Angelica kissed Alexander back with frenzy. At some point her brain had stopped fighting. She needed him. She wanted him. Her whole body was practically screaming for him. Yet, this same ecstatic madness had been what had obliged her to be married to Ferdinand. What terrible woe could come from the passionate throes if she allowed it now? Still, she seemed unable to release Alexander’s mouth. He tasted so good: like strawberries and mint, like chocolate and milk. He was heaven to her senses.

What will happen between these two, I wonder? If you'd like to know "A Decade of Longing" is available at:
Remember that if you leave a comment on any of my blog posts today (with your email address) you'll be entered to win a copy of the novel! I'll announce the winner on Tuesday at my blog (so don't forget to jot down the address and follow me) and I'll get in touch with them by email.

A Decade of Longing Excerpt

I've returned with the promised excerpt :) But let me tell you a little about me in case you're interested. I’m Elyzabeth M. VaLey, erotic romance author. I've had two releases during this past month of October, one of them my historical romance “A Decade of Longing” and the other a paranormal short “Dreams of Fate”.

Excerpt:

Angelica stood up to receive Alexander. She had been trying to prepare herself for this moment all morning. The thought of seeing him, alone in her drawing room, had made her unable to concentrate and get anything done. She tried to feed on her anger, on the feeling of abandonment, of being cheated. She thought of the long ten years in which she had known nothing of Alex. She had spent ten years worrying about him, craving for him, hungering for him and yet she had known nothing. She had lived every day for the past ten years wondering if he would fulfill his promise and come back. Though she finally convinced herself that it would not happen, Angelica still hoped.

Even as Jonathan introduced Alexander, and he bowed low to her, she could feel her resolve fading away and her heart accelerating.

“Thank you, Jonathan,” she managed to say in a normal voice. “Have a seat please, Lord Huntington.”

Yes! She was doing it! She was actually carrying on a civilized conversation without letting her feelings get in the way. All she had to do was avoid gazing into his eyes and she would easily be done with this silly reunion. She smiled to herself. She was still in control.
With renewed vigor, Angelica sat back behind her desk and shuffled some papers. While Alexander sat down, she tried to calm her nerves by reminding herself that they were on her ground. This was her office and she was in control. She had no feelings for Alex whatsoever and after ten years, she was certain that there was nothing left in him of the man she had once loved.

Finally, she folded her hands atop the mahogany desk, cleared her throat and began to talk business.

“Our charity, Children of Today, was created a few years ago to try and help those poor children who are without a home. Our main goal is to give the homeless children a roof, meals, and in general a better life until they become adopted or are ready to go their own ways. We create activities such as raffle sales to try to help better the life of the little ones in our local orphanage. We also go to them at least once a week and teach them diverse things, or play with them, read to them––”

“Angie.”

His voice cut through her like the sharpest knife. Her words faded away and silence reigned. Angie. It was a simple word, her name. But said by Alexander, it held a whole new meaning: love, ache, desire. Angie. It reverberated through her, coursing through her body and causing a shiver to run down her spine. Her body recognized the voice and she looked up at him, making the fatal error of gazing into his eyes.

Angelica blinked. One moment Alexander was sitting across from her; the next, he was standing before her. So close. Too close. She tried to stand, but the moment she did, he snaked his arm around her waist and pulled her closer. His lips found hers and she lost herself in a passionate kiss.

Angelica felt his soothing hand on her hair; his fingers burnt into her waist. Her bosom pressed against his chest, and she felt desire begin to course through her, concentrating itself between her legs. She heard a low moan emerge from her own body––something she hadn’t permitted herself to do for the past ten years. That one simple human reaction brought her back to reality. With force, she disentangled herself from Alex’s grip. Taking a step back, she slapped him hard.

“Angelica,” Alexander said huskily.

“How dare you?” she said, her voice rough. She cleared her throat. Her whole body trembled. She began to pace around the room, trying to distance herself from Alex; trying to forget his taste in her mouth, to lose the warmth he had radiated, the life he had infused in her.

“How dare you?” She turned to look at him.

I love romance and all of its intricacies. As a matter a fact, I think I'm in love with the idea of love. "A Decade of Longing" is all about true love. Love that doesn't care about the boundaries of time and life.

Divorce Lawyers Are Saying What?

Okay, this one really tripped me out. I was watching my local news station and this piece on the dire warnings of divorce lawyers popped up. I think it was CBS syndicated—maybe  not. I was honestly too busy listening to the intro to figure that out.

Divorce lawyers warn couples that social networking sites are destroying marriages.

Well, in the first place, why would a divorce lawyer want to warn anyone? Think about that. Divorce is their business. Shouldn’t they be well wishers of trouble brewing? LOL Something just rang terribly off with this little story.

Anyway, it’s that season of the year where everybody and his brother are talking about love—and why this piece got into the news is beyond me because it didn’t really give anyone much hope if you ask me. But I listened, and basically, these divorce lawyers said that more and more of their cases are a result of one spouse taking off with someone they met on a social networking site—Facebook was specifically mentioned.

They even did this anonymous interview with a husband whose wife had left him—had him in shadows so you couldn’t ID him. It seems, according to the hubby and the lawyers, that a lot of spouses are hooking up with someone they once knew and rekindling their relationship from high school or college. The hubby in shadows even recommended that you snoop around on the computer to see what your spouse is up to. The attorneys advised against this because you COULD be breaking the law unless you’ve been given access to your spouse’s email and social networking accounts. Hmmm…what happened to the law saying married couples were considered as one? Seems to me that when you get married, all bets are off where privacy is concerned. I could be wrong, though. lol

The attorneys suggest that spouses should exchange login and password info. Not a bad idea if you’re in love with your spouse and you share everything. But then what is stopping you from getting an account that you don’t allow your spouse the info to? I kind of think that anyone who is going to cheat is just going to do it and you’ll be the last to know.

Now they also talked about meeting perfect strangers online and chucking it all to go and be with them. Doesn’t sound quite real, does it? Or smart. I know someone who did just that. Left her husband of seventeen years and four children—ages five to sixteen—to go all the way across the country for this guy. When she got there? Turns out he wasn’t rich like he pretended to be and those online mood swings of his were just like I kept telling her—alcohol or drug induced, and in his case, BOTH. And here is the real kicker. He was living with a woman and brought this friend of mine right on into the house and introduced her. The woman moved out after a week of watching them sleep together and my friend stayed with him for about a year before she went back home.

My friend and I don’t talk much anymore. I had a hard time with what she did. Leaving your hubby is one thing, but leaving your kids? No. Not something I could condone at all. Not even for love.

So what’s your take on all this? Do you have someone from your past you’re flirting with online? Do you suspect your hubby might be doing this? Is there such a thing as “harmless” flirting online?

Here’s the blurb to my new contemporary novella, Twelve Days of Love. I honestly believe my hero and heroine are the forever kind of couple and Facebook could never tear them apart.

Blurb:
Eden Riley left her high school geek days far behind. Or so she thought. But when she returns to her hometown and comes face to face with the local heartthrob, sparks ignite like a chemistry set on crack. Super-smooth Nick Lancaster sets her nerves jangling and thrusts her libido into overdrive. But can the former geeky girl overcome her insecurities and jump his sexy bones?

Nothing suits former jock and debate-team star Nick more than sparring with the one-time nerd. He’s just itching to get up close and personal with her high-velocity curves and tangle with her on the nearest horizontal surface.

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, all bets are off when Cupid draws back his bow and Nick has only twelve days to convince Eden she belongs with him, in his heart and in his bed.
