STAR ATTRACTION - Final Excerpt [PG-13]

“There’s no one here,” I whispered to Raul.

He shook his head. “There is. You just can’t see them.” My skin crawled at the realization of what he was saying.

Algol. Ghost-like aliens that would take over my body given half a chance. My hand tightened on my prod. “Where?” He didn’t answer, but then, he didn’t need to; behind the plastic sheet to our right was a dark shadow outlined in blue-white light. I took a step back and raised my prod. The sheet billowed. The Algol drifted toward us.

It was vaguely similar to Raul in his alien form, in that it had longer arms and fingers than a human, but beyond that it wasn’t like anything I’d ever seen. It looked more like an absence of matter, like a black hole. There was no face, no indication of gender, just a large black shape edged by light.

I wanted to scream, but found myself unable to utter a sound.

I couldn’t move, either. It was as if the damn thing had transfixed me. The outline grew brighter, making my eyes water. A black hand lifted, one finger extended.

You will come.

The voice sounded inside my head, an echoing whisper of demand that was hard to resist. It tugged at me and I wavered.

You will— Its wordless order dissolved into a scream that tore through my brain. I could move again and dropped my prod even as Raul moved forward, his weapon raised and active. White lightning crackled from the end, enveloping the Algol. It screamed again.

“I could feel it in my head!” I was on the verge of hysterics.

“I know.” Raul brought his prod down, bringing the shade to its knees. “It was going to take you, and I couldn’t let that happen.” He glanced at me. “I won’t let that happen.” My hysteria banked at the surety of his tone. I swallowed and picked up my prod, then looked at the alien at his feet. “It’s not dispersing,” I noted.

“No, I don’t believe I’ve calibrated the voltage correctly.”

“So, now what?”

“Turn on your prod and aim it at the Algol.” I had to pause, even after feeling the effect of the creature, because what Raul suggested was cold-blooded murder. Assuming this thing had blood. I looked at him.

“Raul...”

“It’s them or us, Megan,” he said, voice firm.

Observatory tour guide Megan Shaw has always had stars in her eyes, so when she all but runs down the otherworldly Raul, she barely blinks. It doesn’t hurt that Raul is hot – whether in his human form or his natural one – and that there’s an immediate mutual attraction.

But Raul is on the run from his alien overlords and soon Megan finds herself fighting against a foothold situation with nothing more than a couple of cattle prods and Muse for soundtrack.

However Earth is not the only planet at risk and with his species desperate to escape generations of oppression, will Raul’s loyalties shift as easily as his physical appearance?

STAR ATTRACTION - Fourth Excerpt [PG-13]

The entire future of Earth weighed on me, but who was I? Nothing special. I had no super powers nor an arsenal of weapons. I didn’t even have an army at my back. Could I do this? The odds were incredible. Maybe I was just fooling myself.

“We have the element of surprise,” Raul said. He squeezed my arm and kissed the top of my head. “They won’t even consider the possibility of a low-level assault.”

“We’re gonna end up dead,” I forecast morosely. “This is utterly insane.”

“Hey, I thought I was the voice of doubt. What happened to the defiant, overly up-beat Megan Shaw I met yesterday?”

“She woke up to the reality of the situation.”

“So what do you want to do?”

“I don’t have a choice, Raul. It’s either stand up to them or end up host to one of them. Frankly, I’d rather die than that. And you never know, we might actually pull this off.” Raul pulled me onto his knee as I worried whether we really could succeed, but then his hands slid under the hem of my T-shirt.

As distractions went, it was very effective and I stopped worrying.

In fact, he stopped me thinking of anything for quite a while.

STAR ATTRACTION - Third Excerpt [Adult Content]

He wore my dressing gown, which, fortunately for him, was a powder blue affair. I straightened as he walked into the room. His expression was mild, his mouth a serious line. I tilted my head. He gave a slow blink, then loosened the belt and shucked the gown off his shoulders. As it pooled around his feet, his whole body blurred, like a TV losing its signal. Then he came back into focus.

I didn’t scream. There was no need to, as he was beautiful.

His head lost its hair, even the eyebrows, but the eyes and lips stayed the same. His nose was flatter, the nostrils wide and flaring, and his ears sank into the larger skull. But what entranced me was the patination of his golden skin. A crosshatch of brown lines began on the sides of his neck and ran down both arms to the wrists. His chest bore another patch, which then divided to circle his navel. The lines were darker over his thighs, then faded mid-shin. It gave the effect of scales and made my fingers itch to investigate their texture.

“May I?”

He nodded with a quick half-smile.

I stepped up to him and ran my fingers over his chest. His skin was raised in tiny bumps, not rough but very different from human flesh. It wasn’t unpleasant, though. A ripple ran through me at the thought of how it would feel rubbing against my own.

My hands slid over his flat stomach and my eyes followed. They settled on his arching erection. His cock was a deeper gold. It lacked a foreskin, and the head was more bulbous than a man’s and longer, taking up a full third of his rather impressive length.

Casting him a catty glance up through my eyelashes, I wrapped my hand around it and murmured, “How interesting.” His wary expression split into a grin. “You think so?”

“Yeah, I really do.” The condom problem nagged at me.

“Um, I don’t have any protection.”

“Ascellans don’t carry STDs. And we have to make a conscious decision to impregnate our females.” Surprise arched my eyebrows.
“Really? That’s...handy.” He grinned wider. “Isn’t it?

“So we can...” My gaze shifted to the bed. Raul gathered me into his arms and nuzzled at my neck.

“We can if I remain in this form. As a human...well, like I said before, the change is complete.” I thought about the shifter films I’d seen, where werewolves would rip through the human body. “Does it hurt?”

“No.” He kissed my temple. “Not at all, so don’t worry about that.”

“Okay. But if you’re giving out kisses...” I turned my head and he slanted his mouth over mine.

His tongue was cool and smooth. It snaked along my teeth and swirled around my own tongue. It was utterly alien but all I could think was how it would feel against my clit. Or better yet, deep inside my cunt. I broke our kiss with a hungry groan.

He smirked. “Bed?”

“Bed,” I agreed, and grabbed his hand to lead him there.

STAR ATTRACTION - Second Excerpt [PG-13]

“So what are you?” Perhaps fleeing a crazy gunman wasn’t the best time for a meet-and-greet, but on the other hand we might be dead in five minutes. “You’re not human, are you?”

“What makes you say that?”

“Humans tend not to have glowing eyes.”

“Ah.” He grabbed the door pull as I navigated a sharp bend.

“I am Ascellan.”

It meant nothing to me. “Right. So why’s that guy shooting at you? Well, us.”

“He is no longer himself, but has been overtaken by an Algol.” He gazed at me with those unearthly eyes. “They are creatures of pure essence, insubstantial unless they inhabit a physical body. When they do, they take over completely.” His lips twisted with what I read as distaste. “They are parasites.” I glanced in the rear view mirror. Despite my speed, Farmer Guy’s ugly dog was right behind us. I shook my head. “Is that what he wants with you? A body?”

“No. They used us Ascellan for...other things.” He sounded angry. I decided to drop that particular line of questioning. Edging the car’s speed up to sixty, I made another turn, but the dog still bounded only a few yards off my bumper. Dammit, what was it gonna take to lose the thing?

“Is there anything you can do about that?” I hitched a thumb over my shoulder. “I’m not sure I can outdrive it.” He reached down and undid his seat belt. With a wry glance in my direction, he said, “I assume you can keep the car from crashing?” and twisted round to kneel on the seat.

“I’m gonna try,” I muttered. Out of the corner of my eye, I watched him wind the window down. He drew a small, silver device from the pocket of his jeans. Who knew aliens wore Levi’s?

That was most likely a denial of the fact that he had a gun. It didn’t look like one, but he aimed it out the window and fired, so it had to be. Even if what it shot were little blue bolts of light.

His third shot hit the dog and turned into a sort of light web, much how comic book movies portray Taser hits. The dog went down with a howl. I kept my foot down and made a left, then a right and another right. A road sign told me to slow to thirty and I was finally under the comforting glow of streetlights.

My passenger sat straight and refastened his seat belt.

Putting his weapon away, he said, “Thank you for not screaming. It tends to affect my aim.”

STAR ATTRACTION - First Excerpt [PG-13]

I liked driving at night. Maybe it was the quieter roads, or maybe the whole “under cover of dark” thing, but in either case it gave me a sense of freedom like nothing else. I zipped down the country lanes with the top down, the wind in my hair, and Muse’s Uprising drowning out the rumble of my MG’s engine. I’d not been anywhere important nor was I headed to any particular destination; I was just driving because I wanted to.
It was a cloudless night. A full moon glittered between the branches of the trees that canopied the road. My headlights shone off a road sign. I checked my mirror, signaled left, and spun the steering wheel with my palm as I shifted down a gear, maneuvering the car smoothly around the corner.
Singing along with Matt, I straightened up and put pedal to the metal. The speedo needle crept up to forty-five before I eased up.
The limit out here was sixty but with farmland and the possibility of suicidal wildlife bursting from the hedges on either side of the road, I chose not to push it. Last thing I wanted was for my car to be garaged due to an animal-radiator interaction.
I guess that saved me. It certainly saved him.
He appeared out of nowhere, directly in front of me, and I jammed my foot on the brake. Tires screeched as my car slewed to a halt. His hands landed on the bonnet. I sat back in my seat and stared through the windscreen. He stared back at me. His eyes were amber, shining in the darkness like a cat’s.
“What the hell?”
The sound of my own voice startled me out of that frozen moment of shock. I wrenched the gear stick into reverse, intending to spin the car around and get away from those inhuman eyes.
“Wait, please.”
