The Sons of Navarus Series

My newest PNR series is called the Sons of Navarus. A blend of vampire and mythology, the series revolves around eight vampire warriors, the Sons of Navarus, who must defend their world against the Archon takeover. Archons are the law and order vampires, and they believe this is the long prophesied time when they will begin to control the vampire world. Sterile and cruel, the Archons seek to mold their world into one in which all vampires will obey their iron rule.

Long ago, the first vampire was born from the love of the goddess Macaria, the daughter of Hades, the God of the Underworld, and Navarus, the human male who fell in love with her.  As her consort, he walked the night as she always had, becoming the first vampire.  Loving her, he turned her vampire and together they had eight sons. The youngest, Idolas, had a vision of the world long after ancient Greek times, of a time when the Archons, those vampires chosen to keep law and order in the vampire world, would move to overthrow the elders in the Order of Macaria and impose their iron rule on all.

The vampire world is now very far from the love Macaria and Navarus shared millennia ago. The Archons have moved to fulfill the Prophecy of Idolas and begin the takeover.  Standing in their way are the Sons of Navarus, eight vampire warriors chosen by the Order of Macaria to protect the way of life vampires have enjoyed for thousands of years and defeat the Archons when the day Idolas prophesized came true.

That time has come and for the eight Sons of Navarus, this war will test their strength and courage. They must unlock the secrets of the Prophecy of Idolas to defeat the Archons or perish in trying for none of their kind can be safe if the Archons win this battle.
Vampire Dreams Revamped is the prequel to the Sons of Navarus. That novella introduces readers to three of the Sons, especially Vasilije, and other characters who appear in the series. Book One of the series is Blood Avenged and is Vasilije's story. Readers are eased into the Sons of Navarus story, meeting the other seven Sons at the end of Blood Avenged. Book Two of the series is Blood Betrayed, Saint's story. Whereas Vasilije is sensual and hedonistic, Saint is a brooding and dark hero. His story introduces readers to even more of the Sons vs Archon storyline. And coming this September 17 is Book Three of the series, Blood Spirit, Terek's story. With eight Sons, there will be at least one for every reader to love.

Walking with Elephants, a novel for women

Here is an excerpt from my novel, Walking with Elephants, a light-hearted tale about the serious work and family issues women face today. A reviewer felt the tone was like Bridget Jones meets Erma Bombeck.

Excerpt:

I have always believed life is a mysterious journey through chaos. And so far, for me, chaos has brought forth nothing extraordinary. I haven’t been thrust into fabulous wealth by marrying someone who became a serendipitous millionaire. I haven’t blossomed into a beauty of the ages. No, I am just the result of nature’s accidents and my own silly choices. Working together, these forces have brought me to dwell among the mundane, and I accept it... for now. My unremarkable existence, however, is also noble. For I have come to understand that the big questions such as, What is my purpose in life? and Why am I here? converge with the little questions like, Where is my other shoe? and When will pot roast go on sale? Big questions, little questions, big thoughts, little thoughts, even famous people have them. So we’re not so different.
Except for the limos.
Although I live an ordinary life, I’ve deluded myself into believing that I’m capable of greatness. But not right now. Right now, distractions, reactions, predilections, and trying to catch five more minutes of sleep rule my world. In fact, although cocooned in sleep, I can hear the alarm buzzer sounding and automatically, my trained finger hits “Snooze.” Stealing those extra minutes to snuggle under the covers and pretend I really don’t have to get up is nourishment for my soul. Today, however, it seems that before I get my spirit-lifting five, a sonic boom explodes in my ears.
“Sooooooz, oh, Suze, Saooooooz, time to get up, hon. Hey, sleepy head!”
It never fails, just when a titillating and erotic dream is about to take shape, just when I’m about to feel the beating of a taut chest pressing against mine—fantasy interruptus and I am yanked into consciousness. That intrusion on my I Can’t Believe it’s Not Butter fantasy and assault on my auditory nerves would be from my husband, Bob. Every day he jumps out of bed on some adrenaline rush, but I require a gentler, quieter approach that has escaped his observation, lo these many years. As if bellowing weren’t enough, now he’s shaking my arm. Erotica quickly transforms into a ride down the rapids.
The sleep-drenched mind is a curious phenomenon. That’s it. I’m done. Finis. I’m up. Who wants to ride the rapids at this hour? I open my eyes and…whoa! My startled, but still paralyzed, self sees Bob’s face eyeball to eyeball with mine. When he’s satisfied that I’m awake, he stands back up and I can see he’s nearly dressed in one of his two dress-for-less suits. His professorial uniform of jeans and corduroy blazer with leather arm patches is de rigueur on campus. Something must be special about today, hmmm…can’t remember.
“I have a special meeting this morning with my book publisher, I told you, remember?” he says answering my unvoiced question.
My groggy, slow-witted brain tries to comprehend what he’s saying. But numbed by his chatter, I stare at him empty-headed while he puts on his tie. It feels late. I look at the clock. Yup. I’m screwed.
“You really overslept today, Suze. I thought you’d have gotten up when I jumped in the shower. Hey…lazy, you’re still not moving. Aren’t you getting up? Look, hey, open… don’t close your eyes again…is this tie alright?” I nod, “yes.” “And hon, would you mind taking my blue slacks to the cleaners? I’m kinda in a rush now.” I nod, “yes.” “One more thing, can you make a haircut appointment for me? Make it with Donny…for tomorrow…and oh, we’re out of Scotch. So, please don’t forget to pick up a bottle on your way home. Okay?”
I keep nodding like I’m listening. He kisses the air and mumbles something like, “Love ya,” but I know it’s probably, “See ya,” and he dashes out.
Lumbering out of bed, I make my way to the bathroom sink and look in the mirror. I’ve got to wake myself out of this groggy stupor, and looking in the mirror first thing out of bed usually shocks me wide-eyed.
It works.
I’m shocked.
And fully awake now.
It didn’t always work. Why just a few, maybe a mere twenty years ago, my fresh from sleep sag-free face took on a pink glow, my used-to-be-thick hair stayed neat and silky, and my bifocal-free eyes sparkled. But now, well, the get-going-in-the-morning mirror trick works. As I keep blinking at the mirror to get my reflection into focus, four gray hairs pop into view. Those suckers are coming out right now.

Moving On: Random comment draw. Details below

Moving On is a sweet contemporary romance with a subtitle of "A Prairie Romance" because I live in Saskatchewan, Canada,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saskatchewan. The lower third of a province appears flat when driving on the highway and it feels as if you can see forever.

Anna Jenkins comes here from a large city to start over in the small community of Regina Beach http://esask.uregina.ca/entry/regina_beach.html . The house she inherited from her deceased fiancé "The windows were dirty and the exterior paint cracked and flakes. This was just the place she needed if as they say, your environment reflects your state of mind. Maybe in this place they would get off her back."

Amy Lignor in the RT Book Reviews Sept. 2012 comments,
...the descriptions of the small-town attitude are right on the money....
Nick Donnelly is a sergeant in the Canadian Army home recovering from the loss of his leg. Even though he grew up as the son of a farmer, it was not his intention to be part of the land. However, while he is in Afghanistan he begins to dream of the safety of the deep rich soil where he grew up. Nick works hard and does everything he can to become physically fit and pass the required tests to return to the front. Anna helps Nick realize there may be a future for him back in his home town.

Amy Lignor states:
But after the romance begins to bloom, they each learn to trust again.

NIGHTFALL – Sci Fi Erotic Romance by Robyn Bachar

Hi everyone! I’m excited to be here today to celebrate the release of Nightfall, the first book in my Cy’ren Rising trilogy from Samhain. Nightfall is a space opera with epic battles and political intrigue, but also with a passionate M/F/F ménage romance. Here’s the blurb (I love the warning, it’s one of the best parts of being a Samhain author):
When a wounded runner stumbles into her workshop, sculptor Talena Spenser’s comfortable, quiet life is shattered. Aiding the escaped slave risks losing more than just her freedom. She is in phase, when Cy’ren females are overwhelmed by the drive to mate.

Mordacki Loren, shadow sword of House Nightfall, knows the pain of losing a mate. He never intended to take another. But Talena, raised by humans with little knowledge of Cy’ren ways, leaves him no choice. As the mating lust consumes them, Dack promises to honor her wishes—even if that means letting her go.

Scarred and hardened by a munitions accident that sent her Alliance career up in flames, Carmen Hawke joined the Cy’ren resistance as captain of the flagship Talon. When old flame Dack returns from a mission with Carmen’s childhood friend and first love, Talena, in tow, the temptation to allow someone—or two someones—close to her again cracks her emotional armor.

Pursued by an unknown enemy, the trio works together to discover the secrets of Talena’s past, and to uncover a threat that could destroy the fragile peace of the Cy’ren homeworld.

Warning: If the epic space battles, gunfights and swordplay aren’t enough to get you going, strap yourself in for a male-female-female threesome that’s scorching enough to fire your engines into overdrive.
I’ll share an excerpt later today, and I’ll be chatting a bit as well about my addiction to Twitter and the Olympics. Nightfall is also starting a two week Virtual Book Tour tomorrow, and I’ll be awarding a $20 Amazon GC to a randomly drawn commenter during the tour.

Couture Corsets and Steamy Historicals

By Beverley Oakley aka Beverley Eikli

I’m a girl who loves the wasp-waisted clothes of past eras - and her romance, historical.

My first three romances published by Robert Hale (UK) were Regency Romances with lashings of intrigue and peppered with mystery.

Lately, however, I’ve started writing erotic historicals. This year has been a big one with three published by Total-E-Bound this year.

The Cavalier is the latest of these: a poignant tale of blighted love - and renewed hope - set during the English Civil War in 1648.

Normally I write Regencies but I couldn't resist the opportunity to write about a time in history when the conflict was so raw. Brother could be fighting brother or, in this case, a Puritan woman is faced with her lost love - who turns out to be second-in-command of the King's Men currently besieging her castle.

Here is the storyline:

Since Lady Elizabeth married the brutal Puritan, Silas Drummond, against her will eight years before, she's been a dutiful and obedient wife.

However, her world is turned upside-down, not just by war, but by the return of her old love, Charles Trethveyan, who marches into her life offering her a bargain that will save her hated husband's life.

A bargain she can't resist until she learns it's based on a lie.

Not knowing that Charles is acting to save her life, Elizabeth succumbs to her husband's demands that she make the ultimate sacrifice - for the sake of honour.

Death is imminent unless the truth can be revealed in time.

Here is an excerpt from a scene in which Charles's depraved commander Reynolds has his eye to the keyhole. My heroine, Elizabeth, is in the bedroom with the man who was once her lover and whom she believes betrayed her, though she still has feelings for him.

Slowly, Elizabeth nodded once. “This is war,” she whispered, simply, “and I want to live. I’ll struggle and scream as I would if it were Reynolds but you have my permission to take me. I’ve dreamed of it.” She said it so he could be under no illusions as to her feelings and was gratified by the brief shock that crossed his face.

Immediately she tried to pull out of his arms. “You betrayed me!” she shrieked. “By God, I rue the day I set eyes on you. You betrayed me. Don’t touch me!”
The play acting had begun.

Now, the cool thing about this book is that it’s one of four novellas in the Bodices & Boudoirs collection and readers who buy one of these books through my publisher’s site, are automatically entered into the draw to win 100 pounds (about US$155 towards a Couture Corset.

I’d love a couture corset, personally, not least because I’d love to fit into my old wedding dress.

I was 29 when I got married in my mother's French-designed 1961 wedding dress which had 11 darts artfully positioned for a perfect fit. I was lucky that I was able to just step into it and it fitted like a glove, although we had to turn the hem up a bit.
Fast forward a few years (17, to be exact) and I'm strongly considering wearing this same wedding dress for a fancy dress party. The trouble is, I can't quite get the zip up - though I'm nearly there.

So, I’ve been eyeing a sumptuous boned Lalique corset at What Katie Did, a UK company I discovered during my online corset-viewing travels.

I know I'd wear my corset a lot - both on its own at home to drink red wine and watch a movie with my husband as well as under something special to nip in my waist for a night on the town.

Last night I managed to dig out a photo which shows my wedding dress without a large bouquet covering the waist. It was taken the following day, by my sister in a field of Salvation Jane on the family farm in the Clare Valley wine growing district of South Australia - a long way from where my mother married, in Pretoria, South Africa. Mum then travelled to the remote mountainous kingdom of Lesotho where I was born and where my next book, Lammergeir Rock - a diamond smuggling romantic suspense - is set.

Anyway, just remember, a corset is a good investment as it looks good on anyone – though you might just win one, if you want to check out the details here.

In the meantime, I'm not sure what my accountant will say when I claim it as a tax deduction. Hopefully I'll convince him that wearing my cabaret number is not just for my husband's benefit but that it really is necessary for throwing myself thoroughly into my intense and passionate love scenes.

Go on - be tempted! And Good Luck!

Beverley writes traditional Regency Romance as Beverley Eikli and sensual or erotic historical romance as Beverley Oakley.
